In a sane world, it could be applied in really helpful areas, like medical science, or free up our time so we can spend it on arts, crafts, and enjoying nature, but that is not what's happening right now.

Microsoft, AI, and Electron-based certainly made me look around. On my recent second serious attempt with Zed, I moved over entirely (of course, keeping VSC installed, just in case). It definitely has its quirks and inconvieniences and it took me one or two days to get used to it, but I can now develop serious size web-apps comfortably even on a Chromebook (getting it installed on ChromeOS/Linux was meh, but once it worked, all was fine).

I'm not emotionally attached to Zed (too much AI involved for my taste), but practically, it works great so far. It may help that I am a minimalist and try to avoid any extensions and frameworks that are not really required.
