Those captions upset me... If you're not going to use an auto-caption tool, at least use a damn spell check before publishing! Also, censoring the captions while the original audio isn't, is top tier brainrot.

However, unlike Apollo 10, Gemini never had any UFTs (Unidentified Flying Turds).

Tempering chocolate is done for multiple reasons, including to prevent "blooming" (the white residue on the surface) as well as making the chocolate more resilient in various environments. You're changing the crystallization inside the chocolate, which actually requires a pre-tempered piece to be added to your melted chocolate, to initially seed the crystals.

It sounds complicated, but it's not too hard. If you're more of a visual/demonstration learner, Tech Ingredients did a video on "Optical Chocolate" (utilizing plastic diffraction grating sheets to add holographic designs onto chocolate) where he describes Tempering in detail.

The black ball in the centre doesn't look translucent enough to have a camera behind it.

That's because it's almost certainly a PIR (passive infrared) sensor for motion detection. IR light can pass through the "dark" plastic, even though visible light cannot/is restricted. The OP you're replying to is talking out of their rear end, unless they can provide some sort of proof.

As for what the device is/what the PIR sensor is for, it's either some sort of presence detection for home automation (like an occupancy sensor to turn lights on/off automatically) or potentially some sort of security device. On the security device side, it could have additional sensors like sound detection (not recording) for trying to detect parties (loud music).

Regardless of what it is, ask your host what it is. Unless they avoid you completely (in that case, report them and work it out with Customer Service), wait and see what they say. There's likely an innocuous explanation.

Did you see him pause when he said, "We all know what's happening in this country with..." I'd love to know what he was going to say.

From the wsaz article posted in a top comment:

“That vehicle was completely unmarked,” Hollonbeck said. “I had no idea that, in my mind, this was not good, and everybody knows what’s going on in this country with fentanyl and child trafficking and rape. Terrible stuff.”

Um, actually it's "what's the deal with airplane food" ☝️🤓

If you're going to be pedantic, you might want to verify you're fully correct first...

It's actually, "What's the deal with airplane peanuts?"

Try reading it in Teri Hatcher’s voice.

Jerry doesn’t say that line. Sidra does.

Try watching it again. Maybe you and /u/morquinau can watch together.

Somewhat related

That's funny, I thought the exact same thing, but I was going to link to the Reddit post.

but I've switched to a Yihua iron + hot air rework station.

Was working on a larger art project some time pre-COVID, and Digikey randomly sent us one of these units, instead of our random JST connectors. Boss let me keep it after the project was completed, and I've been in love with it ever since!

If they're unmanned I believe stealing them is just robbery, not piracy. Don't quote me on that though.

IANAL, and I may totally be wrong, but I believe U.S. v. Furlong, 18 U.S. 184 (1820) defines Piracy as a Robbery at sea. And Robbery requires a use of force or the threat of force. Therefore, it would be neither.

That hasn't been on the market since 2016.

I would assume Neuroplasticity at that age would be another major factor.

She didn’t buy it much, but I remember a green flavor we would lovingly refer to as “bug juice”.

Hawaiian Punch didn't make any green flavors in the 1970s as far as I can tell, but Hi-C had a Citrus Cooler as early as the mid-60's, and that was green. It's supposedly the original inspiration for my generation's "green drink" aka Ecto Coolers.

/u/amoodymermaid in case you wanted to confirm.

No. 12V isn't part of the USB PD standard. Seems totally weird, I know, but it is what it is. USB PD is 5V, 9V, 15V - not 12V. VirtualLink is 12V though.

I don't see it specifically listed in the 3.1 spec, but as someone who has built multiple 12V USB PD projects, it's certainly confusing! Now I'm wondering WTF my PD "trigger" boards are actually doing... Perhaps they negotiate 15V and step it down? Time to whip out my USB power analyzer and do some tests!

FWIW, this post has a comment that claims 12V was "an optional" voltage in USB PD 2.0, but I haven't verified if that's true or not.

ETA: So I grabbed a couple battery banks, my USB power monitor, my "PD trigger" (which may or may not also have QC functionality), a 12V device, and 2 sets of cables (USB-A to USB-C and USB-C to USB-C). Here's what I found:

  • USB-C to USB-C from battery to PD Trigger = 11.9V-12V

  • USB-A to USB-C from battery to PD Trigger = 5.0V-5.2V

  • USB-C to USB-C from battery to battery was only 9V, which surprised me. I thought they were 45W capable, so either I'm mistaken, or that's only for output power. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • I have a USB-A QC charger somewhere that doesn't support USB PD AFAIK, so the next test will be to see if the USB-A to USB-C cable will negotiate 12V to the trigger. If it does, this will verify that they're utilizing QC and not PD. I will update this post if/when I find it and try.
