Given inflation, the term "millionaire" (e.g. having $1M or more in assets) doesn't mean much these days. You're not retiring young or buying an island because you hit that threshold. Not if you're wise.

Think about what it costs to live these days, multiply it by the number of years you expect to live, then apply ongoing inflation to that number. That's what you need just to maintain your current lifestyle. Then add what you expect to leave for your kids after you die. For most, that's well north of $1M. Could easily be $3M.

If you get into multi-millionaire territory, especially $5M+, then we're starting to talk about people who have money to burn on first class plane tickets, etc.

I probably know a lot of millionaires, but hardly care.

I do know one couple in particular who are multi-millionaires. They are very chill, generous, and down-to-earth. They enjoy their money but don't waste it. They have a very nice house in an expensive neighborhood, but they buy and own lightly used cars, not new.

Great take! This jives with everything I know about the Duo after thinking hard about this upgrade and spending time with it in the store. It shines when you open it. When closed, you get a quick interaction display but it is small and that brings a few (managable) limitations.

TacohTuesday

I'm guessing this will help with some of the software glitches people are complaining about. I also heard it improves Siri AI but I won't be able to try it out until later.

TacohTuesday

That is absolutely her mindset. She's addicted to it. As is Billy. That's why they fell in love when they first met. They saw the same thing in each other. That's why, even after being convicted, they are pursuing a new version of the same thing.

Also, "money doesn't matter" is bullshit. Money, power, and prestige are all part of the adrenaline rush that both of them seek. It blinds them to being truthful. They convince themselves that what they are saying is true, then drag others into their made-up world.

Reminds me of Billy McFarland (another grifting Billy), the guy who came up with the Fyre Festival. After that fell apart, he turned to more grift in the middle of being convicted. And filmed it in progress. Then went to prison. After he got out, he started again.

I'm quite happy with the quality of the night shots you posted. Sure I could take better ones with my 17 Pro (that I'm trading in for a Duo) but I'm not framing any of these on the wall either way. If I were, I'd bring my mirrorless camera and tripod for that.

TacohTuesday

Same. I got totally trashed for trying to bring some perspective to the discussion. The bottom line is, some people are itching to knock Apple off its high horse, this was a golden opportunity for them, and they were not going to waste it or listen to reason. Oh well. I'm still very much looking forward to my Duo arriving.

Scrolled too far down to find this. I saw it two days ago and my head is still spinning. How can a documentary be this good? That second half was crazy.

TacohTuesday

It was super green

TacohTuesday

Same with The Martian.

TacohTuesday

And also see more apps get updated for the device

Work is work wherever you do it.

TacohTuesday

You may be seeing the early signs of a defective hinge. Seems to be a very small percentage of units but yours might be one. Keep an eye on it. Go to Apple if it gets worse.

If the low clouds are just right (such as ice crystals forming in the clouds due to low temps), it can reflect lights from below in this manner. I’ve seen several cases where people saw a pattern of lights in the sky like this, thinks it’s a UFO, and then later on someone finds a building shape in google earth that exactly matched.

TacohTuesday

Have someone in my family that’s met her fairly recently. She was super nice, friendly, and more intelligent than you might expect.

TacohTuesday

Yet another person who didn't comprehend my post and falsely thinks I am "defending Apple".

TacohTuesday

I'm not pushing back on people trying to investigate. Good on them. My issue is with the conclusions people, mostly commenters, are jumping to, and the endless posts on this sub about it.

TacohTuesday

I'm not defending Apple. I'm calling bullshit on people's assertions. Read my original comment again. I'm arguing that people are jumping to conclusions about what the problem is, when they can't possibly know yet. That's it.

I'm still looking forward to my Duo arriving, and I'm not all that worried about this happening to me. I think the odds are low, and I know I can get an exchange if I'm one of the unlucky ones.

And of course, Apple needs to solve this, even if it's a small percent. And if we DO find it's really a widespread design flaw? Then sure, we should rake them over the coals. I don't like to get ripped off any more than anyone else.

TacohTuesday

Yes they missed something. But we don't yet know if it's a design flaw.

The design could be totally fine, when it's assembled correctly.

But some hinges got assembled out of tolerance, or the parts were cast wrong, and so just those ones are failing. It could be 1% of devices made. Maybe less. We don't know.

If it were a design flaw, every phone would be screwed. Like back in the day when the Xbox 360 had the red ring of death. I find it hard to believe the extensive testing Apple does wouldn't have uncovered that.

TacohTuesday

I agree, they are by no means infallible. Though, antennagate was ages ago. Steve Jobs was still alive then.

More recently we have the butterfly keyboard, which was officially a cluster fuck. That was when Jonny Ive was in charge of design. Of course, with each incident like this, Apple learns and adjusts.

Do they admit it? Not directly of course. They are a publicly held company who gets sued all the time, so naturally they are going to walk a line.

But yeah, they've certainly made mistakes, and at times been a victim to their own hubris. That said, I'd still much prefer to buy from them than anyone making an Android phone. I've owned their phones since 2006, and they've always taken great care of me. I've had almost zero problems with anything I bought from them. I find their devices to be extremely high quality.

TacohTuesday

WTH are you on about?

TacohTuesday

I haven't. But what does that have to do with a phone built 15 years later?

TacohTuesday

I'll just come back to this post in a month when the scope of this problem and the solution is actually known, and then we'll decide if everyone is going overboard and jumping to conclusions.

TacohTuesday

The author bent the phone backwards. That's not evidence of a flaw.

The majority of comments in this post imply this video has uncovered a design flaw that explains it all.

Anyway, I don't care anymore. I was just suggesting people reading this post could use their brains for a minute. Whatever.

TacohTuesday

Ok sure. Some of these were pretty bad. But that list is over a 20 year period, for some perspective. But hey, if you think they can't be trusted to make good products, by all means go buy a Samsung.

Also, you didn't answer my second question.

TacohTuesday

I just think it's kind of hilarious.
