Yeah no denying it; that's more than I'd spend all in one go. $1000 on a GPU when that's the regular MSRP and cards are readily available? Okay sure, it's my main hobby, I don't love it but I'd do it. $1500-$2k when clearly we're in a 'bad place' for cpu availability? Nah, I'll wait... years if need be. I have a backlog to catch up on anyway.

Micron is building a new fab plant in Idaho. LLM obsession isn't going away but new chip making factories will come out. It just takes a LONG, LONG time for them to be made.

TechGoat

It wants a phone number. I was willing to make a burner email for it but fuck if I'm giving Piper or whatever the 3rd party broker is licking Trump's taint to get the job an actual real phone number. Not for a piddly grand.

Now I get pathetic emails from them forwarded to me from the burner email, "you haven't finished setup, don't you want Glorious Leader Trump's money?" and shit like that.

Not enough to actually pay real money for a burner phone number, dipshits.

TechGoat

Have you found the smoking gun?!

TechGoat

It's enough for his wife, okay?!

TechGoat

Also, the article linked to in the OP which describes exactly this workflow.

TechGoat

I mean... Two computers. As he said, one for him, one for his girlfriend.

TechGoat

Leave MTG alone! Leave it alone! weeping

TechGoat

Let's give them something, they can't take off.

TechGoat

That's what I thought. Hard nope. "I agreed to the items that were in the original contract available before I pressed the submit payment button." and I would be more than happy to have the credit card processors take it up with VRBO.

That's probably what was going on with AirBnB. Irritated guests requiring chargebacks for the cleaning fee, because they were the ones doing the cleaning. So AirBnB took the guests' side and said, yeah, cleaning fees are for... cleaning.

Here's what I'm curious about. Were all these "tasks" you were "asked" to do published clearly on the website before you made the booking? Or were they some laminated piece of paper on the kitchen counter.

If the former, well, they were the rules I agreed to when I booked. I should be okay with them, I saw they were there, still gave my money.

If only the latter though? Fuck off with that. I didn't agree to any of it. Clean your own damn property.

TechGoat

It's weird they don't bring intermissions back...

The [video game release] backlog is impossible to clear at this point.

This may be the most first world problem I've read in years

What, you don't like your health bar being a tiny little horseshoe that's barely visible in your screen? Such great design!

I just started rdr2, first time ever playing any rockstar game ever. The story does seem engaging, the relationship between the characters. But holy fuck yes the shooting is annoying as hell, and the interface is this disgusting controller type ring abomination.

If it has a ranged weapon as your primary device, mouse and keyboard.

I hope people are just playing these things for the story.

TechGoat

Beautiful shot. Did something already casually take a chomp out of the front right side of it, I wonder.

Look up the popular kids TV show starring a little dog named Wishbone. That's exactly what the OP describes: wishbone the dog and the human actors would retell famous stories loosely connected the "real world" of the world TV show plot. It was on PBS when I was a kid in the 90s.

I'm going to piss on Fucking Ghoul Mitch McConnell's grave so hard when he hopefully dies painfully sometime soon. He's a despicable piece of shit who deserves nothing but the worst. Trump is pathetic loser who is nothing but id. Mitch is fucking intelligent, and simply evil.

There's probably a bunch of new visitors/guests coming in. Homelab people be like - hey i found a cool new docker container, i'm going to install it, it has a web-frontend, whatever cool.

I'll be honest, I'm only a few steps away from that level of homelabber. I'm a sysadmin but I don't generally deal in web stuff; I just use my netscaler which is supposed to 'deal with all that for me'

I basically tossed the names of all the containers I'm running into an LLM and asked it, which web languages are each of these running? When I got the answer, I was then able to search the man pages for each container (trust an LLM? but verify) for that language to confirm it was so. Nextcloud was the only one.

TechGoat

Lots of websites don't use PHP though. People who use containers they get from github, whatever, might not know what language their web frontend is written in. IMO it's still a semi-valuable tool, particularly for home-lab users.

And more importantly the lock on every safe can't be changed after production, like a bike lock that uses a code you can change. You have to cut out the old lock (replace the certificate entirely) in order to make the safe secure.

IE on Internet of Things devices that don't get updates frequently or at all from manufacturers, they're basically doomed to keep this particular lock available for use. That is, you could visit a malware website for the next 10 years or so, until those compromised roots expired naturally basically, and any websites will show up with a valid https certificate if they were issued by those cracked root level certs.

We got the zero interest rate for 4 years when we bought in 2020. Rates were crazy good then due to pandemic. Via the Synchrony bank they used to partner with. Paid it all off by then. Definitely recommend lovesac.

Beavers look at our white teeth and pity us. They think white looks awful.

TechGoat

Right. I use LLMs all the time to build tiny personal script projects for my home lab. There is no passion, just a motivation to solve a task as quickly as possible and move on.

I can't imagine trying to explain this garbage as "art" - LLMs can't make art, they can only make tools. Maybe "someday" we'll have star trek general AI that can, but... No time soon.

Owner doesn't mean a native local. Could have been a colonizer, down from Europe to inherit his grandpa's land.

TechGoat

God is horrified we eat his adorable Sacred Cows, when he intentionally gave us delicious and not too bright insects to eat instead.

We westerners with our disgusting eating habits should be the ones apologizing.

This is obviously tongue in cheek of course. But in all seriousness in another hundred years, what we think of as "meat" is going to be very different, either in what it's made of, where it came from, or both.

TechGoat

What a glorious majestic beast. Like how I imagine a Pegasus taking off. I wouldn't have thought the wings would look so soft and blanket like, compared to say, a fly's stiff wings. But it makes sense, an earwig has hidden wings, a fly's are right there front and center.

I can immediately speculate that the floppiness of the earwig's wings make it much less precision attack helicopter than a fly too.
