It infinitely repeats in every direction by teleporting you back
but under the hood, the position is being stored into alot of Scoreboards, which represent the players TRUE location in this world rather than the position in the Minecraft world. This TRUE location is used to generate each book.
TL:DR It keeps seemlessly teleporting you back but does some stuff to store the players position for the generating books
