There was a huge push in the late 80s early 90s to have consoles be multimedia devices. This was likely spurred by the video game crash where the older generation saw consoles as novelty kids toys and nothing more. 

But consoles have always been computers so they have always had non-game software and hardware despite the fact that its usually niche.

There have been attempts to make consoles have exclusive media formats to combat piracy and to get licensing revenue for the console makers. But it usually works better for the console to just support existing media formats. Think the ps2 playing dvds vs the cdi trying to create a new disc format. To be fair the cdi format was far more versatile than earlier cd types. But the cdi itself was not good at demonstrating that tech and the cdi (as a format) was available in other devices.

DS3 is the first one that clicked to me. I had tried bloodborne and DS1 but they never really got their hooks in me. 

Mainly DS3 had more active/rewarding gameplay than DS1 and did not require farming for heals like bloodborne. It's really that simple.

It really isn't Cyberpunk because it doesn't have commentary on the use of tech as a of oppression by capitalistic elements. But it is very punk (challenging of all kinds of authority) and it has cyber elements (cyborg demons and future tech) so I can see why someone might think that.

For me? It doesn't have the pick up and play aspect that I like from a rouge lite. A run is a time commitment that I don't enjoy making if I'm not really in the mood.
