If the multiplayer PvP shooter, which is a competetive genre at its core, does not reward good players by letting them stomp bad players, what's even the point of playing?
Because of the opposite: you're punishing bad players to get stomped. That's not fun, and those players will eventually quit. Now if you still need players to stomp, then the level of players that used to be considered good get stomped. Repeat until only the best players are left, and those people who only played to stomp will quit too because there's no one left to stomp.
Especially nowadays when there's other PvP shooters to play instead of CoD.

In most current games, the data the client sends is not really checked for correctness.
Because with latency, there's only so much 'correctness' you can check for. Like with the simple problem of "who shot first". You can either trust the client, or use the time when the action hits the server. Guess which one people like?
Even shooting at another player. Well on my screen, they're now 50ms behind where they are on the server. Maybe +50ms to the actual other player. And then when I shoot, that's +50ms for my action to hit the server.
Good luck compensation for that. It's basically how cloud gaming works.
It's why the original Quake 1 netcode was so bad, and they re-did it completely in QuakeWorld. They never really tested it outside LAN during development.
Every client runs the entire simulation, and has all data, so every client checks everything.
Yep, RTS games are an exception. That's why RTS games do a lot of tricks to hide latency. When you click, it shows the mouse cursor graphic and plays the audio cue from the unit, but your unit won't actually start moving right away.
Pretty sure they hide the setting in newer games, but if you've played Starcraft 1 Brood War, there's an option for "extra high latency" setting. That works by adding extra delay to all your moves. No one wants that in a fast paced FPS.
Fighting games are similar. Their netcodes either add a similar extra delay to everything, usually called delay netcode in fighting games, and everyone hates it because it fucks with their input lag. Or rollback netcode, which requires trusting the client that they don't lie about the time they press their buttons. That's the one that people will prefer.
If one client sends data that is incongruent (for example if one client tries to cheat), that just leads to a desync and the client is kicked.
Problem is lag happens. If you've played a lot of RTS, I'm sure you've experienced: when one person lags, everyone lags. Because now their simulation is behind and because you're requiring everyone to run full simulations, they have to catch up. You can't just let the other players keep going too, because they'd never catch up, so you have to slow down the game.
Netcodes have to be able to handle desync properly. Like in a fighting game, if we both attack at the same time, well on my screen I attacked first, and on your screen you attacked first, because latency!. So now you've desynced.
So that doesn't scale up to more players, because it still only takes 1 person to have a bit more latency (wifi really doesn't help here, but that's what people use). And it doesn't scale up to faster games, because the simulation will only run as fast as it does on the slowest player's CPU.
RTS games still use this kinda netcode because networking a full supply army of 100+ units is harder than simulating locally. Fighting games do because they're 1v1 and if one person lags, you don't have a game anyways. But yeah it's just not good for anything else.

To be considered a television, you probably still have to be able to receive OTA television broadcasts. With modern stuff, that means you need hardware to decode modern video codecs. The cheapest way to do that is to get a system on a chip, so full CPU and all that.
So at that point putting an OS on it and making it smart is only a bit more expensive.

And other AC vendors like BattlEye will likely also follow suit.
Even before EAC('s announcement), Embark (Arc Raiders, The Finals) already had similar plans with their anti-cheat.

Killer feature of bcachefs for me is the tiering system. Combine all your spare HDD+SSD into a single filesystem and it can automatically handle moving stuff to HDD in the background, while keeping most recent stuff on SSDs. It's great.
And yeah I run it root to fully take advantage of my drives, so I can't run this without that module signed

CachyOS here is also signing the Nvidia driver modules: https://github.com/CachyOS/linux-cachyos/blob/8a9d93cf23b124fc0402bba5e2e4cc929005a1c7/linux-cachyos-eac/.SRCINFO#L90

You'll need to encrypt home probably with a different encryption too at least.

Those seem a bit overkill for a trident. Without awd, you're looking at 5 motors for the x,y,z1,z2,z3.
Well I guess Manta has a 5P that'll do 5.
Unless you wanna do 48V x/y or AWD? Those would be the pros of the more expensive ones.

Except making your own engine doesn't automatically mean optimized. Look at Monster Hunter Wilds or Elden Ring that aren't exactly optimized games even with their own engine.
So if you're not going to optimize, why bother?

You can definitely get Usb dongles that are Bluetooth. That'll be like 8bitdo's Wireless USB adapter. You can even tell because the original Xbox One controllers don't do bluetooth, only Xbox Wireless. So those won't connect to that.
The only Xbox dongle that's not Bluetooth is the official Xbox ones. That's the only way to get the 3.5mm jacks on those controllers working, since that won't work over Bluetooth

I think that's just the nature of subreddits, and how it pushes old threads down (compared to bumping threads in old style forums). This is the biggest "news" for linux_gaming in the last week or so
It's either that or constant help threads, memes, or "this game works on Linux!".

The problem is you can't validate because game states aren't perfectly in sync. Unless you're cloud gaming, what I see on my screen, and what the server sees, is never perfectly lined up.
This isn't just an anti-cheat problem, it's what leads to peaker's advantage. Leads to other things like dying when you're behind cover on your screen, and not on the enemies screen.
ThatOnePerson
First I've seen a Steam Link 3rd party client I think? Since they got all the clients on everything (even ARM for raspberry pi) and if you wanted more features usually just go Moonlight/Sunshine.
ThatOnePerson
Because of latency, you'll always have to send at least a little extra data ahead of time, because no one wants to play a game where if you turn a corner, you have to wait for round trip time latency + server tick / occlusion calculation for an enemy to show up.
Like this isn't even strictly an anti-cheat issue. It's what leads to peaker's advantage

With the SKR Mini E3, you want an Ender screen. With something like the Mellow, you want a Reprap Smart Controller
ThatOnePerson
The stock maker select display? That's what I meant with LCD. You need to rewire it to work with anything that's not the stock Melzi board.
ThatOnePerson
If you're interested in new games, for compatibility yes. Without DX12 Ultimate on the 5700Xt, you won't be able to run games like FF7 Rebirth for example

That printer is so barebones (hey I have one that's no longer one cuz I modded the hell out of it), basically any board will have the features required to run it. SKR Mini E3 V2.0 is 35$ on Amazon.
Though I would maybe spend a bit more for 5 drivers: Mellow Fly-DP5. This let's you put your 2nd z-axis motor on a different drive. With self leveling, you can have it move just one up/down to level better.
If you want to re-use the Maker Select's LCD, you'll have to rewire that thing. Do not just plug that into the board

I'm not even sure you can even get Valve anticheat anymore. They've completely removed mention of it from their documentation.

I agree that 4 separate EBB42s seem like a bad idea with sync stuff.
Though instead, what if you jammed a whole 2nd MCU with 4 motor outputs on the gantry? Hook up endstops to that
ThatOnePerson
Yep they removed it in 1.03 for some reason.

Last I checked, it was 1 per month though (since they generally change bundles every month anyways)
Intels newest plus chips are completely competitive at their price ranges right now for everything except versus X3D.
Too bad no ones building computers.
