Smile 2 has a better ending, and is much flashier, which is why I think many prefer it.

The Halloween that Almost Wasn’t
Witch’s Night Out (which is on Tubi)
TheElbow
That scene where Rose is astral projecting. 🤌🏼
TheElbow
I loved it way more than I expected but I didn’t care for the twist at the very end regarding Emma Spool. That felt like one step too far.

I can understand why people want to avoid plastics, but I think that attitude doesn’t take into account how absolutely polluted the planet already is. Your starting state isn’t pristine. Introducing a plastic compost bin isn’t going to suddenly flood your body with microplastics. They’re already in there.

Until 2028.
I’m not saying this isn’t important. But every election gets this level of doomerism, whether it’s deserved or not.
TheElbow
Something tells me that the birds won’t be the main focus, but they’ll be a persistent element. Similar to the film.
TheElbow
It’s possible, however I dont think it would be made in the exact way if it was made today, so it’s not possible to really make a comparison.
TheElbow
I’m not trying to be snarky here, but do you think The Birds is just an animal attack movie and not a metaphor for other things?
TheElbow
I love this movie. I remember renting it on VHS tape and having my mind blown as a young teen. I had to go on dialup internet to try and figure out wtf I just saw. Great movie. Great soundtrack.

Stake Land

Saw it in a theater last week actually. Fun time at the movies with multiple horrifying moments.

I would love to see a prequel to NOES, but the biggest hitch would be casting Freddy. Because Englund had such an important speaking part for 7 movies, replacing him would almost certainly cause at least some viewers to hate it.
TheElbow
I ordered in the first 75 minutes of the sale and I didn’t get an update that my packages was actually moving until Saturday.
TheElbow
A list of movies people know, largely from the 21st century.
TheElbow
Recency bias
TheElbow
This happens across many things. For example, when we vote on best of the year, the list tends to be filled with movies that were released in theaters because those movies have more money for marketing, which in turn, makes them more widely known to more people.
TheElbow
Fascinating.
TheElbow
Like you, the first time I watched this in 2013 or so, I absolutely hated it.
I rewatched it in 2020 and realized it’s my favorite Rob Zombie movie because it feels more able to combine his influences without being annoying. I think it’s one of the great 21st century witch movies. The visuals are out of control.
TheElbow
Two very different movies:
Ichi The Killer - over the top, comedic gore
Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer - grimy, nasty, voyeuristic
TheElbow
Yea the coda episode of the 2021 Stand series was all King and that wasn’t a good ending either.
TheElbow
I love seeing the 7-digit phone numbers. What a different time.
TheElbow
Love the marketing strategy discussion.

Thank you, and happy Halloween!
I’m not a massive fan of either of them. I scored them both 7/10. Competently made, some good scares, but derivative of a lot of indie horror that came 10-15 years prior.
What Smile 2 lacked for me was mystery. In the first Smile you don’t really know what’s happening. Once we get to the sequel, it’s just set pieces for me.
