The funniest interaction while in the nicu (self.NICUParents) [Off topic]

If you don't want to buy a shredder, the paddle and whisk work great for shredding meat.

I've never heard of a hospital system testing for nicotine. Regardless, there are smokeless options of nicotine. I think it's more that there's no smoke breaks offered
TheSilentBaker
Yes, it is messy. But we don't know what these people may be going through. If you were to come to my house right now, you'd probably be horrified. The dishes are clean and counters are wiped down, but I don't have storage space, had a death in the family, had 3 family members staying in our living room for a week during that time, have a busy toddler, both me and husband work full time, and we had my sister's 6 month old during this time while she worked and her sitter was on vacation. My house was chaos and is a disaster, but at least we could eat safely

Old navy has the adjustable waste pants that are a life saver. For the others, I buy rolls of drawstring cords and drawstring clips. I cut 2 small holes on either side of the front waste seam then using a safety pin thread the string through and attach the clip. It's so much easier than taking them in because it can grow with them if needed

OMG. As a nicu mom/nurse I'd die. That is so funny and something we'd all laugh about later
TheSilentBaker
Hahahahaha. Honestly, moments like this need to happen more at the hospital. Really brightens the mood.

We were gobsmacked. My BIL has a TBI and lives in an assisted living home and he gets to go out whenever he wants. For some reason she thought it would be the same...... he was on IVs and not on oral feeds yet as well as o2. It was so funny

🤣

This is not a you problem, but a them problem. This is how we end up with nurses who make huge mistakes because they are bullied into not asking questions. I am not a new nurse yet still have questions and I stopped GAF who cares. Safe nurses ask the questions. Unsafe nurses harass those who do and cause a culture of uncertainty

A local quilt store had a class online and they called it an ugly quilt. I thought that was the term commonly used. I assume it was called that just because it's not perfectly uniform and like your typical pretty quilt lol
TheSilentBaker
🤣🤣🤣

I just started saying when he's ready he'll come home. He didn't give notice when he came into this world, and he's not giving notice for when he comes home.
TheSilentBaker
I loved it for my kiddo. He's much smaller than average and the straps on the carts were always way too high and loose. This allowed us to have him safely strapped into the cart and have snacks during the trip
TheSilentBaker
I don't, but only because I'm allergic to something in it and my 3rd one, my arm had a baseball sized lump that formed and took forever to go away. My son and husband though still get them and we have yet to see covid in our household.
TheSilentBaker
Have you seen warm bodies? It can happen!
TheSilentBaker
He tries to kill himself at least once a day..... we are currently fighting about how it's ok to pretend to be a cat or a dog, but he shouldn't eat their food and drink from their waterer......
TheSilentBaker
🤣🤣🤣 we have been fortunate. Hated the bottle and struggled until he didn't need it anymore. Currently he pretends he is a dog or cat and will drink from their water bowl if we can't catch him fast enough. When we explain it's the animals water and that he has his own, he laughs tells us he is a dog/cat then goes to try again..... Lord help us
TheSilentBaker
This one sucked. I had a very well meaning house keeper ask me where my baby was and had to explain they were in the nicu. We ended up getting noise canceling headphones and I would just watch movies to drown out the noise when I wasnt hanging out in the nicu.

My toddler loves food and has since he was able to start solids. He used to get so excited that he would overdo it. I've had to back blow him a few times to dislodge food. First time was scary and we both cried. Soon became no big deal. Glad he has figured it out though and no longer shovels food like it won't exist in 2 hours

I had a tech the other day give me attitude when I asked her to check the pulse ox on the toe when she couldnt get a read. I was checking her BS because if altered mental status while doing bedside report. She acted like the request was so off left field and like it was a problem I asked for an alternative site.....

I worked until I delivered. Used Smmy STD and maternity leave. Had 8 weeks maternity due to c-section. Then I got 4 or 5 weeks STD that I took after my baby came home from NICU. Worked great
TheSilentBaker
/s I hope? Unironically my aunt will claim this occasionally
It isn't cheap, but I've never found it difficult to clean. It comes with a brush and you simply allow it to dry off not already, then dust the excess off.
