Stigma, they expect they will be found and don’t want to disclose anything they wouldn’t want disclosed.

I was studying in Germany at the time and had an absentee ballot sent to me (it was the first time I was old enough to vote, my sister asked me how I was going to vote. I told her I would just vote next time and she told me no, I had to vote and got me in touch with my Senator to request an absentee ballot. It’s stuck with me to always vote).

The international students who saw the ballot were shocked that that law was being voted on. I also remember there was a conservative Columbian guy there who rubbed it in my face when Gore lost (I think he was probably mad because I always beat him in fussball at the bar where students hung out).

I’m just curious, is this not the standard for all delivery trucks?

The_frozen_one

You replied to the wrong comment, the one you wanted at the same level as my comment hierarchically.

They are voting to undermine the ACA which includes both health insurance for low income families, and subsidies for health insurance for low-income families. It's likely 10 million+ will outright lose health insurance if there are no changes. People without insurance actually cost us more because they end up getting sicker, then getting treated in the emergency room (which costs at a minimum 3x what it would cost if you treat them before).

People don't stop getting sick just because they don't have health insurance. Hospitals and doctors groups don't operate at a lose, so they end up spreading the costs of the uninsured onto people with insurance. We end up paying more for worse healthcare outcomes than if you paid for their insurance up front. But hey, with those tax cuts Elon might be the first trillionaire before the decade is up, so it's not all bad. /s

They will never say this outright and have a bunch of shiny, focus-grouped quips about work requirements, but at the end of the day it's weaponized bureaucracy. If you keep adding paperwork and friction, fewer people will receive services. Everyone knows this. It's part of the CBO's analysis. But they will never say it outright, because having that kind of backbone won't get you elected to congress.

From that article:

He said the FBI did not warn Facebook about the Biden story in particular - only that Facebook thought it "fit that pattern".

They came to their own conclusions, but are saying that previous discussions with the FBI might have biased their thinking. “Prompted” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that article, neither the Biden admin nor the FBI asked FB to censor that story. The story that, uh, they didn’t really censor:

Facebook did not completely ban sharing of the article, but instead limited how much its algorithm automatically shared it to other people for a week, while third-party fact-checkers tried to verify the reporting.

By contrast, Twitter straight up banned it, and later admitted they messed up. FB soft pedaled it and blamed the FBI.

The_frozen_one

The Biden admin didn’t pressure them to bury the Hunter laptop story. They did ask them to remove Covid disinformation. There’s been a lot of effort to obscure the nature of what they asked of them, but zero evidence it was anything other than Covid related info.

Both Facebook and Twitter penalized Trump for Covid misinformation.. It wasn’t like Facebook was being asked to do something they weren’t doing anyway. Remember, Facebook just paid $25 million to the Trump admin for Trump being banned. Zuckerberg talking about Biden officials is part of the payment.

You’re thinking rationally, shooter might have wanted to end his own life. These shooters almost never fit into some convenient political narrative, what they did was more about their fucked up mindset. He didn’t communicate a manifesto or release a prepared statement, he’s not playing 4D chess to move the pieces on the table. I’m pretty certain the motives will be much smaller than people are imagining: he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and cause pain and make noise on the way, and he found his victim opportunistically.

The_frozen_one

False dichotomy. You don’t want to admit that you don’t believe in freedom, you want government agents checking papers. You believe in maximum government bureaucracy to enforce your vision what it means to be an American.

Pick any law. You can apply it absurdly and use it to fuck with people. I guarantee I can find something you’ve been doing “wrong” and use it to endanger your freedom or the freedom of people you care about.

The_frozen_one

Other places have less crime. If you believe that, and you think crime is bad, then why are you giving up in advance?

The_frozen_one

Well clearly we should pardon violent offenders if they politically align with the party in power. /s

Never said anything about Russian propaganda, but I’m guessing you’ve heard that before? You do realize that you are not immune to propaganda, right? I’m not either. Say that in a mirror every morning and consider the first thing that makes you mad is propaganda.

We are living in McConnell’s country. He put 1/3 of the Supreme Court in place. Would a junior rep have done as good? Maybe, but it’s hard to imagine a more savvy opponent and his age didn’t matter.

I don’t want you to hold Ds in any higher or lower esteem, I just want you to understand Congress. Yes, it would be better with all elected members following some code, but it’s reckless to disarm unilaterally and it’s something Rs are good at tricking Ds into doing.

We’ll be celebrating a D median age decrease on Zoom while Rs pass another actual budget that outlaws gay marriage and makes saying Latinx a hate crime /s

Everything starts and ends with numbers and who has the gavel.

Their documentation shows that it's loading half the context window size ollama does by default.

More importantly, how long have you run LM Studio as a service in headless mode?

The_frozen_one

Didn’t read your reply, you can’t reply yet. You lost your right to reply when you were labelled a criminal and deported. Bet it was good though.

The_frozen_one

You trust the government too much to be able to point at someone and say “criminal” and have the person imprisoned in-perpetuity with no trial and no release date and apparently “no take backs” even when they fuck up.

Here's a gource visualization run against the current repository.

It's cool to see the different centers of development form and get re-organized over time. It's also pretty chaotic to see all the commits at this speed (10 days per second)

The command to generate the video was gource -s 0.1 --hide dirnames,filenames --disable-bloom --date-format "%B %-d, %Y"

(Sub I'm linking from is an old mothballed sub that I'm using to upload video)

The_frozen_one

It used to be a pretty common term on reddit.

What technology stack is Docker using? llama.cpp's own git repo links to an existing docker image that runs llama.cpp, so presumably this new announcement is not that. I don't know though, but assuming it's just a thin layer on top of llama.cpp is presumptuous (in my opinion), and further implying that they are not giving enough credit to llama.cpp (which, again, are they using llama.cpp?) is just silly.

Open source works better with "yes, and" mentality, not a bunch of people accusing projects they don't use of not advertising their dependencies hard enough.

The_frozen_one

It’s no different than using any other technology that identifies redundancies and doesn’t duplicate them. What’s your LLM stack?

The_frozen_one

That's a great idea that's actually the approach this project uses: https://github.com/jdrbc/podly_pure_podcasts

It works reasonably well with llama 70B, but I got mixed results using smaller LLMs. Basically that project acts like a man-in-the-middle podcast server, you give it the podcast URL and it downloads, transcribes and cuts out the ads automatically. The cool thing with that particular project is that it was a podcast server too, so you could point any podcast app at it and it would work on any podcast you tried to download. So once you set up a podcast, future episodes would get their ads removed when you tried to download them.

When I played around with it, it was pretty clearly geared for OAI's models. It's possible with some prompt changes, local LLMs would work better. The main issue was that cutting up audio transcriptions is hard to do cleanly without breaking up the context. If you slice up an ad part of it might not sound like an ad, or a podcast talking about upcoming episodes in isolation and without context, it might sound like more of an ad than it is.

The_frozen_one

Its an opaque process and you can't really prove (court of law prove) how much of an effect nudges from the government have on the outcome. Plus that guy sounds like he had a shaky case to begin with.

If the social media companies had a problem, they could have done what Apple did with the San Bernardino case and told them to fuck off. The fact that that this case came from a bunch of Republican AGs should tell you what you need to know. It's all smoke and jazz hands and insinuation of bad things that could not be proven. That's a terrible basis for any affirmative judgement that would have prevented all communication to social media sites.

I'm with alito on this one.

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine the amount of distress that agreeing with Alito would cause me.

Its not gunboat diplomacy. That's simple display of force to coerce someone. Soft power is more about influencing and shaping perceptions to bend someone to your goals.

Soft power was Soviet citizens quoting American movies while wearing American jeans. Soft power is non-coercive. If you're talking about threats, that's no longer in the domain of soft power.

I'm more concerned about those types of things due to the bipartisan hate of anonymity.

Which party is making people prove their age before logging into porn sites? Or is getting books removed from libraries? Right now it is not at all a bipartisan issue.

So are they a publisher or a common carrier?

Why do they need to fit into either category neatly? If they lose 230 protections, tons of speech gets immediately curtailed as social media companies become 100% responsible for all content they host. That means vetting (and likely shitty AI decision making) about each and every publicly accessible utterance. Open-source or volunteer led operations like the fediverse would likely get killed off if each post is the legal responsibility of the hosting instance. Why not treat them for what they are? Private places that hosts lots of user generated speech. Making private companies host content they don't want to host would be a terrible precedent.

The_frozen_one

Tariffs are pretty goddamn anti-business, but sure. And this is a sub is about running LLMs locally, you really think GPUs are somehow magically going to get cheaper under Trump

EDIT: I’d to is

The tweet says deplatformed, which would have involved them being intentionally and systematically removed from major services to deny them any platform, which didn’t happen. You don’t have to repeat exaggerated claims verbatim.
