My favorite part of this thread is that, if the mods were being consistent, almost every single commenter in this thread would be banned for at least seven days. I do have to support the mods slightly though, we should all follow the mods request and report them for violating the moderator code of conduct.

I don't really care if they ban posting about the jets location, but then just make the rule you can't post the jets location. This wishy washy rule they've written up literally doesn't even covers blocking where the jet is located. (The jet is not tied to a person, thus it's not PII).

The bigger problem is the complete lack of transparency around LMG influence on mod decisions on an unofficial subreddit.

There was a non-binding poll 3 months ago about this exact issue. Mods were told then this was a problem. They ignored it with "trust us" comments. Then this shit blows up and in the intervening time Linus was granted ADDITIONAL mod powers. If mods don't want to be responsible then make a binding poll on the same issue now and let the community decide.

Counterpoint, the other staff accounts are inactive. This was such an issue …. They didn’t need to use their mod powers at all for years? This is obviously Linus power tripping, as he’s done countless times over the years, and it’s not a good look. LMG has proved LMG doesn’t need to be mods by not using their mod powers. The glaring conflict of interest should be removed.

Having to spend mod resources auditing a suspicious moderator is a poor choice. They never should have been given mod powers in the first place, but the fact it’s already blown up should prove it’s time to correct course and remove them. Especially Linus.

Terren committed to publishing the findings. If he doesn’t we can only assume the findings were massively negative for LMG.

I think the conclusion that a police presence keeps crime down is logical and supported by this study. The better question is whether a police presence is the ONLY way to keep crime down.
