What the hell is this?! [Halo Infinite PC] (v.redd.it) [Gameplay]

I mean... you changed the pitch of the song and now it sounds different?
Tom Kenny did not sing the Crossworlds theme lol.

Just want to say that Budokai is one of my favorite games. If you want me to run some builds on real hardware quick I can send you the logs.
Toastman22
Technically true, but it is mostly dependent on the specs of the machine running Flycast. Or specific things that real hardware doesn't care about, like code that rewrites itself or flushes the instruction cache often.
There is really no replacement for real hardware testing. With Flycast a faster PC will run the game better than real hardware, and a slower PC will run worse than real hardware.
Even on a PC where Flycast runs at exactly Dreamcast pace, the timing inside each frame differs:
DMA transfers finish instantly.
Memory never makes the CPU wait.
Interrupts land at different moments.
Flycast is great for fast checks of logic and drawing, but it can’t prove timing or performance.
Toastman22
Haha that's how I started with the Monkey Ball port. Burning CDs. Got old fast, and eventually it was not viable as you will be burning disc after disc for small code changes, chasing a bug or performance optimizations.
With a Broadband adapter you only need a DCload disc and an asset disc for testing CD read speeds. Yeah a BBA is expensive, but it will save you HOURS per week. You can also use the BBA to get live debug info sent back to your PC, make a change, and just send a new build back to the console. Real hardware optimization is basically impossible without one.

Very cool! I love Budokai!
One thing to note is that emulator results are not accurate to real hardware.
If you are serious about developing for Dreamcast, invest in a Broadband adapter and use DCload to test builds in real time over your network.
Speaking from experience Flycast hides real hardware crashes, memory restrictions, necessary CPU optimizations and more. It should really only be used as a supplementary tool alongside real hardware testing. A game barely hitting 60FPS in Flycast will run at 30FPS or lower on a real Dreamcast.
That said, good luck with the project, and I can't wait to see more!

Thanks for playing!
Was not surprised to see Toy Fighter on your list. Ever since I started the Monkey Ball port I have gotten many requests to port other Naomi games. The one that has been requested the most is Toy Fighter, which I had never even heard of before haha.
Toastman22
It feels weird to see my own project while looking at a random post lol.
Toastman22
Look at the back of the cases. It says how many blocks out of 200 it uses.
Toastman22
No problem! I love PSO!
Also I have noticed over the years that many die-hard fans of the original PSO seem to have a soft spot for PSZero, including myself.
Toastman22
Sadly the online has not been fully restored as far as I know. Last time I checked it was not possible to group up with random people without adding them to your friends list beforehand. But maybe that has changed?
On it's own it is decently fun, a bit more limited like the original PSO and it feels more like that game than the later games in the series. It has a full single player story. It may be worth playing in the hopes that the online is restored one day.
I will say that I think the weakest part of the game is the theming. It's less sci-fi and more western/cowboy. Similar to something like Trigun.

This post is how I'm learning the new season is out.
Toastman22
The new tool is called Ai
Toastman22
Yes. It was even slower at launch.
Toastman22
I used to argue with my friend about this.
Toastman22
It is something I am going to look into for sure! I just need to find a good local only game that is slower paced to test with at first. A lot of the games either already had online or had sequels that added online.
I'm open to suggestions!
Toastman22
I appreciate that! And yeah I used to love using pictochat when I was in school. The early days of the DS were so interesting. Back then I bought a wireless router specifically to play Mario Kart DS online!
Toastman22
I still think about the poop knife
Toastman22
Long term, it does not cost a lot to host. I have other personal sites that I have had up for 10+ years. Luckily for this project the DS hardware does not change/update, so it should not randomly stop working with the relay. At this point the only thing that could change would be the relay firmware, but it's already fully featured as is and ships pre-flashed.
Toastman22
Toastman22
It should. I'm waiting for a real DSi to arrive for testing. The DSi communicates in a very similar way to the older models. The site already supports using the Rainbow pen which displays on the older models as well.
Once I can test with real hardware I will add DSi to the supported console list. Even if it ends up not being supported right away it can be added in a PictoRelay firmware update
Toastman22
Yeah someone linked me a similar project from a couple months ago as I am also using ESP32s, just two of them at once to connect to the site and increase connection stability.
Toastman22
Judging by the amount of people I've chatted with on the site already, I think people miss PictoChat haha.

Tighten the screw of the shell?
