Gathering stuff. Each piece is a rare random drop when you gather an item like screws or metal and stuff.

TribeOfFable

Awesome game! Can't wait for launch!

I can tell you why I don't play, but I cannot speak for others.

Progression is a pain. You have to buy skills, after you level up your XP for that skill. This requires money. There are only two ways to earn money, which is selling on vendor and doing missions. No players means nobody to buy your stuff, so this leaves just missions. They are the simplest cookie cutter missions possible, such as go pick a flower, kill something or scan something. To reach these you have to cross landscape that is torn to shreds by other players mining. Picture the utmost worst minecraft landscape imaginable and that is what you have to deal with. Every time. It sucks. Sorry, but no other word best describes it. I hate doing it with a passion.

In their defense, Ralph replied to me in another post and said they are actively working on changing what planets can be mined, etc. to better handle this issue.

Stability. First off my computer is old, old, old. It can handle games like No Man's Sky, Satisfactory and StarRupture just fine. Before the last patch, it handled Stars Reach just fine. That is a common thread with this game. I have not been able to play it since the last patch. This happens about every couple patches since I first got the alpha last year. The game will run fine, and honestly surprisingly fine, and then a patch will come and I can barely move. It might stay that way for a week or two, until the next patch.

So I find that when I actually can play it, I get so irritated with having to deal with crossing the torn up terrain to reach a flower so I can make 250 credits.... and just log out.

I played the SWG beta. It was janky as heck and missing textures to the point most walls were a box with a ? on the side. I am fine with dealing with stuff like that, but this is different.

Long story short is that I have yet to find the "fun" that will keep me engaged enough to ignore the irritations.

You should see the steam forums. There's like 3 or 4 people that have been posting about how bad it is and how it's dead since launch. The exact same people. They will comment on your thread 5 minutes after you post. They are actively monitoring it, just to troll.

You have like 2 months after EA to buy it, otherwise your char is gone. I forget the exact time, but it's decently long. There are 2 main posts by them discussing the demo, length and saving progression. One of them mentions reserving character names and that one tells you the time you have after EA launch.

I've only ever gotten clothes from there.

-edit-

I had no idea that chest was there! I guess the one I've been getting in front of it is random treasure chest. Appears in front of it at least once a day.

Quit denying all the friend requests:-)

When you submit, it puts it in a separate neighborhood for the competition. You go up against them, only those houses.

TribeOfFable

I was not aware of any reddit linking.

You can get them on discord. They are VERY active there, but the next-fest-chat channel on their discord is your best bet.

TribeOfFable

Just fun.

TribeOfFable

I asked in discord about this and you are correct. We will be able to get all of the pieces after launch.

TribeOfFable

Where is the demo banner? Is it craftable or should it just be in your inventory?

TribeOfFable

I got the mothman onesie and no clue how.

TribeOfFable

I signed up last time and Steam still shows me signed up and waiting to be accepted. Am I in the random pool?

TribeOfFable

I got first as well. We all have the best houses!

TribeOfFable

I read in another post that cotton was the best bang for your buck. It sells for double the seed cost and you only water once.

I did not see anything in the patch notes that would address the fact that all the planets are chewed up like cheese from people mining. That is a HUGE issue for a lot of people, since the only way to earn money to unlock skills is with the missions, which force you to go out there. Yes, you can sell things on the market, but let us be real, there is nobody to buy the things right now. Quit mentioning that as an option, it is not.

All of the asteroids are still chewed up from people that played a month ago. I was under the impression that these things regenerate? If after a month they are still chewed up from the few people who have been playing, what will it be like if a bunch of people decided to start playing?

Getting one shot in space. There are still bad things flying around outside of the space stations that can (and do) one shot people. A new player just starting out and flying around the space stations getting one shot, well, it is not fun. Those should not be there, period. It was kind of funny the first time, since I did not know what happened. The second time it was not. The third time I logged out for a couple days.

Every single survival game has to deal with player boredom. It is why most of us that like the genre own most of the titles. Someone who is in to the genre and owns Conan most likely also owns Rust or Ark. They anticipate at least 500 to 1,000 hours just to start. Going from Ark and having 20,000 hours played and then expecting the same thing from Dune is understandable, but pretty ridiculous.

If someone tells me they have 15k hours in Ark, it is perfect believable, since Ark found the niche with dinosaur breeding. Take the dinosaur breeding away and Ark is maybe a few hundred hours game. Conan had to add animal breeding just to emulate it.

I honestly cannot think of anything that would get me to stay in Dune for more than 300 - 500 hours, as a solo player. There is no reasonable gameplay loop to accommodate that.

I even get my free games through Steam. It is not about the cost, but about the ease of obtaining and organizing. If all games were free, I would still most likely get them through Steam.

TribeOfFable

It reminded me a lot of The Event. Ends on cliffhanger, the world's fate hangs in the balance, aliens...

I've watched both a couple times, just for the fun ride.

TribeOfFable

If you want to walk around and look at expensive houses suckers..err.. people bought, it's a great game.

TribeOfFable

Will there be a playtest before release?

TribeOfFable

I think a lot are waiting for the combat update. It still has a healthy population. A consistent population of hundreds is not a dead game. A few more patches and a fresh round of marketing is all it needs.

I am talking about total game population from SteamDB, not per server population. Server population will pick up after a few more patches. When combat is released, it should jump.

TribeOfFable

They are just mad because they didn't get a pony for their birthday. Game gets better every patch.
