I'd say i'm excited for what total war will likely become eventually but i'm more exited for DoW on release.

Trooper_Sicks

No one really even tries anymore, felt like there used to be loads but these days the only one i can think of besides rdr2 (because it was also made by rockstar) is that saints row reboot which apparently didn't turn out so great. I guess in a way cyberpunk 2077 is like a first person gta, with elements of deus ex and bethesda games sprinkled in.

thats not the take away i had from the article. To me it sounded he was trying to say the mentality issue is that people don't believe they will keep their games in an all digital future for playstation.

nobody thinks [physical media] is necessary for a networked device like a smartphone, for example, because people feel that they will keep their content. So it's a mentality

Maybe i'm being optimistic or giving too much benefit of the doubt but i don't think he was saying that physical discs were always a metaphor for ownership, i think he is saying physical discs going away is a metaphor for game ownership going away. Its a small but important distinction, the article never mentions that physical games were always technically licenses to play the game and that quote above is really the only thing of substance in the article. I do think the idea that people don't believe they will keep ownership of digital games on playstation indefinitely is true (we have seen them revoke licenses for movies recently) and the only way to change that would be better laws around digital ownership but it is also only part of the issue with a digital only future. I'm sure we already know the other issues (2nd hand market, gane preservation, the option to buy from different stores etc.)

haven't plaid my zealot in a while but when i did i used to hunt demonhosts because they are easier to kill when you are the one activating it, you basically get 2 free hits of your fully charged heavy attack to the head before they even start attacking. If you wait to see if someone else triggers it by accident then you have to faff around chasing the thing while the teammate panics and trying to hit the head in those circumstances is much harder. Maybe its bad to teach newbies that you should trigger them on purpose but it at least means no ones gonna get got by the DH.

that may have been something people thought about who were old enough to have to consider such things when those consoles released but when you look at sales figures for the ps3 and xbox 360, the ps3 didn't massively outsell the xbox 360, it only sold 3.4 million units more than the xbox 360 despite the 360 having the xbox live subscription and people buying the ps3 to use as a blueray player. So to me it seems like having the online subscription didn't hurt xbox sales all that much and when you compare it to sales from the previous generation then it was a huge win for xbox. Then playstation followed suit because it obviously didn't impact sales enough. PS4 and Xbone were also released 13 years ago, so many people who were still kids when those came out will be young adults by now and they fall into the group who grew up paying a subscription to play online and so it has been normalised for them.

Trooper_Sicks

I think the main reasons they got away with that is because people were basically forced to pay up if they wanted to play online, by time you're faced with that decision you're likely already sitting there with your new console set up and ready to go, just another 10 or 20 bucks or whatever and you can play online with your friends. Another reason is likely that a large portion of those gamers are kids who can bug their parents for it or use their pocket money for it, then they grow up with paying more to play online being normal and don't see anything wrong with it. As someone who was an already an adult before console online gaming came along, it also seemed stupid to me but there have been times where i couldn't afford a gaming pc and had to do console gaming for a while, even then i went for years without paying the online sub until eventually something came along that tempted me into online play.

Trooper_Sicks

I can't even think of another developer where publishers will back off and let them work on it for as much time as they need. Granted it probably helps that they had microtransactions from gta online for the last 10+ years to sweeten that deal. Rockstar has become a company that only makes one type of game but they do it so exceptionally well that people stopped even trying to compete with them.

Trooper_Sicks

I think another problem people have is that it can swap which one its doing after it does the 180, which just adds an extra thing to think about. The monster hunter version of omega didn't do that which made the starboard/larboard much easier to deal with.

Trooper_Sicks

feels like its happening more and more lately. Back in the 90s it at least made some kind of sense with how limited graphics were back then (though they didn't do a great job of making good films based on games back then). These days though, most movies are so full of CGI that it feels like i'm watching video game cutscenes already, especially for something like cyberpunk2077, so whats the point? Might as well just play the game instead.

Trooper_Sicks

Thats one of the things that turned me off collecting mounts lol, i'm appreciating the simplicity of Aion 2's system

Trooper_Sicks

plot twist, darktide 2 will be one of the other hive cities on atoma prime

Trooper_Sicks

I have been enjoying the pet and mount system a lot too, i find its both simple nad rewarding, just kill all the things until you get them as pets. Only other MMO i play is ff14 but i gave up collecting mounts and pets there.

Trooper_Sicks

i did the same, came back when the gta6 pre orders went up to check out the updates i'd missed since i stopped playing. Once i got to the stage where i'd done everything and it would just be grinding to buy cars i put it down again so i can have a bit of a break before 6 launches.

Trooper_Sicks

I would imagine you can find more patience with statics but that might be that i got lucky with the static i joined and i've only used PF for extremes and chaotic, which might be less patient than ultimate PF. My static is pretty forgiving, it sucks when someone makes a dumb mistake or someones having an off day but we've all been that person at one point or another over the years, so theres no point falling out over it and at worst we just finish early and try again another day.

Trooper_Sicks

i don't even think its millions, its usually stated as "over 1 million planets", which technically could be multi-millions but seems more likely to be somewhere to be between 1 mil and maybe 1.2 mil, else they would say "millions of planets" or "almost 2 million planets" or whatever.

Trooper_Sicks

Honestly it depends who you listen to, i think the actual answer is that ultimates are not as hard as some people think they are but they are also not as easy as other people think they are. My perception is also different because i have a static to do them with though, i don't have to deal with trying to pf them. Congrats on your clear, the UWU weapons are stilll one of my favourites from the ultimates.

Trooper_Sicks

Yeah, i'm lucky that i also have a ps5 so i can at least play the gta6 story on release but i'd rather be playing it on pc, not even sure my pc will be able to handle it and with hardware prices at the moment its unlikely that i'll be able to upgrade before the pc version releases.

Trooper_Sicks

Yeah i think for sure gta6 will inevitably kill gta5 eventually but they will likely keep updating it for a year or two while they build more content for 6 and while they wait for more people to switch over to 6.

Trooper_Sicks

rdr2 was a month yeah. I would guess they would want gta6 online out in time for this christmas this year, at least that would make sense if they want to get another big boost of cash from microtransactions, maybe they might want to wait because there might not be people in the office to work on hotfixes over christmas. I would be surprised if it took more than 3 months for them to get gta6 online out though.

Trooper_Sicks

i find its best not to pay too much attention to random peoples thoughts on things like this, some people would have you believe that gta5 online will die the moment gta6 releases even though its only single player mode and console releases in november, other people will have you believe that it will take them years to make gta6 online even though gtao was 2 weeks after gta5 and rdro was 1 month after rdr2. Best just to wait and see what happens, in all likelihood they will keep supporting gta5 until its no longer profitable for them to do so, just like what happened with rdro.

Trooper_Sicks

i kept drinking through my 20s but always preferred weed to being drunk, its only because weed is still illegal in my country that i kept drinking at all. Quit in my 30s though because the hangovers started lasting 2 days and it wasn't worth it anymore.

Trooper_Sicks

i'm only at 1440p so they're useless for me too lol, at least for monster hunter wilds they're an optional free dlc.

Trooper_Sicks

i decided to replay borderlands 4 and see the new characters and dlc they've added since launch, 178gb, i think its possibly the biggest filesize game i own, monster hunter wilds might catch up when its expansion launches if you also include the high res texture pack.

Trooper_Sicks

a short popped up on youtube about this for me yesterday https://www.youtube.com/shorts/F0d6OIBTaMk she says shes not allowed to talk about it, which kind of implies she will be reprising the role, i can't imagine they could get you to sign an nda if you weren't being hired in the first place.
