The wife didn't suffer disabling burns, or loss of eyesight or limbs, and the guy then pretends to go blind, and spends every single day for the rest of her life lying to her, as well as quitting his job. There's nothing noble or gallant about any of this, and considering that they have children together, it is also wildly irresponsible and placing unnecessary burdens on his wife by pretending to be a victim. Not to mention the complete lack of realism. If the wife ever found out that he had created this lie about going blind, would she not be upset and feel betrayed by him?

It should be said that the spice trade that formed the basis for the colonization efforts in the 17th century, was centered on black pepper, nutmeg, mace, and cloves, and not really any of the spices which are common in Asian cooking today.

The spices which were popular in Europe in the medieval period, into the late 18th century, tend to make the food taste and smell very Christmassy, it's very unlike the food you might get in an Indian or Thai restaurant.

So even if British cooking had continued to use the spices that they supposedly colonized the world for, it would still have been very different from the expectations someone from South Asia might have.

The difference here is that a large number of students do not get to choose their dorm, and that living long term in windowless rooms have been proven to cause depression and lead to severe mental illness.

It's not a matter of taste, and you can't really alleviate the lack of windows by providing better services in other areas. Being forced to occupy windowless rooms for a prolonged time is gambling with your mental health, and could trigger lifelong mental illness. With a large population of students, it is only a matter of statistics, because it will inevitably lead to suicides

Building a dorm without windows is reckless, cruel, and ultimately unnecessary, and it will lead to people killing themselves.
