When and where was that?

Montreal is the city that Anglos move to if they move to Quebec, generally speaking. I’m not too up on current events, but I had quite a few friends move there in the last 15-25 years. For most of them, they didn’t really need French in Montreal unless they were in public facing jobs. So it’s very plausible for someone to be “from Montreal” and not speak French.

I would recommend getting it sliced at the deli counter. Generally better than the prepackaged stuff. Start with 200g or about a half pound of something simple like chicken or ham and go from there. Have fun with the condiments. Even just mustard has so many different types to experiment with.

Also get some greens on there. Spinach is good for something healthy, iceberg lettuce is great for a crunch. I always dress the greens with a little oil, salt, and pepper.

Try different cheeses. Try tomatoes too! The possibilities are endless.
