That's ultimately the objective here: I want the next board to hit the ground running with as little downtime as possible.

I like the idea of a potluck, but first we need to get more people involved. Last ordinary meeting came about 1/9 of all owners (I'm not expecting half, or even a third, but a little more than 1/9.

I've let go of that idea.
The only reason I was considering it was in case of Slack/Discord, there could be a channel for different committees, maybe one for documents, and have something more general. But, as you and others have said, the liability is too much for no gain.

Similar concerns regarding Wordpress. But if it works for them, I'm genuinely happy for them. I know how difficult it is for these to work long term.

Thank you for your input.
The board I'm currently in just started and we inherited the budget. I want to suggest software licensing/purchasing after we've tested something. Users (and that includes me) don't know what they want until we actually test it.
Even if I suggest Slack/Discord/Matrix, I think having a channel for neighbors to talk would be unproductive.
I know my Obsidian + Voice Memo isn't for everyone, unless I manage to refine it to a level that anyone can pick it up. I don't have the time to accomplish that, so I'm going for the second best option, looking for something that makes their life easier.
Thank you for the suggestions, it's giving me some thoughts.

That's part of what I want to explore. Apathy is the real enemy here, and anything that allows us to move forward with minimal inertia is a win.
UnnamedPredacon
That's an excellent point to take into consideration.

I'm reminded of that axiom every so often at work.
I'm not in favor of using WhatsApp, but that's what the previous boards used. And I'm not crazy enough to try and create a community/chat for all the neighbors there.

That's one of my biggest concerns, if any subpoenas while we use personal accounts will be problematic.

I'm trying to stay away from developing something specific because it won't outlast the current board.

I mostly agree with you.
Communication between homeowners is more of a side effect/wishlist that's low enough in my ideas that it can be cut off.

Been a board member on and off for the last 10 years, and I also have a technical background.
I agree with most of your points.
- Google is a legacy email we received from the previous board. I don't plan on changing that.
- Most people are comfortable with WhatsApp, which is why it's been used.
- Speaking of which, I also distrust Discord, especially after leaking (multiple times) the ids of its users.
- We have difficult members, but they are difficult regardless of medium. And they have mellowed with the years.
Thank you for your input!

Something more to add to the mix: the whole pipeline has to be filled with trusted people. If only one person is in AfO's side (true believer, blackmail, extortion, whatever), it could trigger a whole new wave of problems, like the Doctor did with AfO originally.

But the government can't exactly parade the latter as a good outcome without really getting into details of how it's good for society. The former is more acceptable socially.

Well, kinda no. His research was to create a chimera with human-like intelligence, without putting a human in the transmutation circle. The other chimeras we see were humans to begin with.

I thought that was a worse fate than death.
He finally realized that what he did is fucked up, and his reaction is to keep doing it until he could bring his daughter back. Not taking a second to realize that he doesn't have to keep fucking shit up to make up for his transgressions. That he needs to atone, but nothing he does will undo his actions.

What made him so terrifying was how mundane he was.
He wasn't some egomaniac that aspired to conquer the world, or some trying to reach godhood and this was the part of the path. No, no, no. He just wanted the cozy benefits being a state alchemist provided. Never mind that he self fridged his wife against her will to gain the position. Never mind that he would only enjoy his benefits for at most 4 years. Never mind that he had no fucking plan after that.
What's most terrifying is that he could be anyone in real life. They don't need magic. All they need is a goal for a little comfort, and they'll sacrifice anyone else for that comfort.
Things I was told to check:
- Check if there is an active board that's well funded. This typically means the reserve funds, but check the budget.
- Check for unoccupied apartments/houses. Too many, and it's unsustainable in the long run.
- Check that water/electricity conforms to modern standards.
Things I wish I was told:
- Check all the fittings. If they have fixed tubes, ask to change them to flexible ones.
- Check minor details around the location.
- Talk with a variety of neighbors. Hopefully you'll encounter someone without filter.
