THE DUDE SAID OG POPULAR MUSIC VIDEO. I only argue when ppl go around being rude n saying ppl are "dumb, bitches and retards" I dont rock w that disrespect shit. not about being right or wrong after that point its about putting ppl in there place.

if you wanna talk theory n lore have fun with it, but dont be disrespectful. and you as Weekndcipher dont need to be backing those type of ppl up

yeah i remember seeing her on ig back in the day when she had like 7k followers doing sade covers and i genuinely didnt think the covers were that great... year or so later the whole drake involvement came up and i was like here we go again w drake gassing up another european lightskin girl.

Abel n Jorja Smith really has Drake still butt hurt for not being able to get them to sign to OVO n whatever ongoings he had w jorja, that he has to resort to finding carbon copies lol

UsedCommunication575

lana del rey has done the same thing but u guys aint have ur pitchfolks out for her back then. Lets just wait n see what the narrative is on the the album. it might be a 180 and a flip on the construct from a woman's perspective

your a mixed raced person who just said you hate the identity crisis that ppl have. Idk if you mixed with black and white or other ethnicities. But from my perspective when mixed raced black ppl w white have that "identity crisis" its often tied to not fully accepting the fact that they dont want to let go of the white identity that they could in which is true do there genetic make up, but its not how the world perceives them if they clearly look black presenting.

if drake was a white passing mixed raced person like a logic than his identity crisis issues make a bit of sense in how society views his racial ambiguity. There is nowhere in the world Drake could go and anyone would view him as "white" in the same way they view logic.

Yet Drake seems to continue to jumping from culture to various cultures but not yet fully embrace his own black culture/identity in the same way he does the various cultures. If Drake was being his authentic self in which he self proclaims himself to be black, he wouldnt feel the "need" to jump to various cultures and just fully commit to embracing blackeness in its fullness and not just the stereotypical parts of black american culture because hes a hip hop artist.

And thats what im referring to when i say drake proximity to whiteness being biracial allows for him to dip in and out of cultures and only commit to blackness when its convenient for him. however hes the same person that will say Black ppl wont accept him. When it reality he could never pass for white and the accountability is on his whiteness as to why he wont be accepted in there world, its not Black ppls fault. Whiteness is a social construct to separate themselves from other races that due to there proximity try to opt in to if they can pass for white. The only ones who cant opt into white social construct are Black, with clear black features and distinctions. Drake is Black, his struggle isnt that he cant be Black, his struggle is in terms of his identity is that he will never be seen as white (obviously).

Many mixed raced black ppl will aim to hold black ppl accountable for not feeling "accepted" but never not the white side for there whiteness that they raised him to believe he can FULLY access which is the cultural lie about whiteness v blackness, compared to other ethnicities who are allowed to. ie Italian, jewish, polish, Irish, some hispanics were all came to north america and were viewed as "others" before assimilating to whiteness for cultural protection. Black people can not do this. They can not advance up the social heirarchy of whiteness in the same way these various cultures cant opt in and out of whiteness when its convieint to them cause they dont pose a threat to the social construct. With out Drake operates he doing the exact same thing with Blackness but Black culture is a real thing based of the diasporic similarities of black ppl its a level of acceptance and understand within the bubble of a share black experiences. Drake attempts to operate within blackness the same white the once "othered" whites dip in and out of that whiteness BUT he shouldnt feel that need because the Black experience as a whole is a melting pot of various black identities that he could feel comfortable in his blackness to not feel any desire to hop around. That is ultimately ppl are referring to when they question Drakes blackness. Just accept you for you.

Its why a Jcole, Vic Mensa etc can hop around amongst various black cultures and take genuine interest in the uplifting of black ppl across the world (african, Caribbean) and be accepted because there not in any way looking to seek validation from the white power structure when things get tough. Drake doesnt not do that he takes from various black cultures from commodity standpoint and doesnt embrace whats fully going on the ground level like ive seen Vic Mensa Jcole and others do in similar position who are also mixed race

Im not one to say drake isnt black. its very obvious he is. Clearly ur conflating two issues. of his blackness and his upbringing in weston rd and then forrest hill. Weston Rd area does infact have more black/poc ppl in that area as it is a lower income community but you know how toronto is low income whites are just as prevalent statistically from a population standpoint as the low income poc but just not as emphasized from a narrative perspective communally. Majority of Black ppl in toronto come from good families whether low income-middle class or upper middle class largely come from well intentioned immigrant families. Your sugessting as if weston rd is as portrayed prevailing issues that the projects have in the states. Similar out comes. Difference circumstances.

The issue is ur bringing up weston rd days (low income area) as if he had formative years there as if its suppose to have huge significance lol he was a child, is this suppose to fall in line of his typecasted view "blackness"? . He said in interviews he lived there prior to being a preteen as a way associate to his "struggle days" - thats comes off weird as a black person myself from toronto as hes suggesting weston rd=struggle=black culture ( in drakes words not mine.)

its not much time to "shape" your character, when by the time he was in middle school, on tv and in high school, his formative years were in forrest hill as the previous user highlighted

imagine if u met someone who was well mannered person who grew up til age 8 in the in low income area and then moved to a wealthy area and had there formative years there but kept wanting to constantly keep reminding ppl about how "hood" they are cause they actually grew up in a low income area til to 8 or so as a reminder to ppl attacking his personhood that he has some "street cred" from his pre teen era? lol. See it from that perspective. It looks goofy the only ppl your convincing anything of his white ppl. Not black ppl.

We dont care that deeply as black ppl. Drakes issue is hes mainly holding on to his proximity to whiteness as a mixed raced black person. The day will come where he will have to let that go cause he knows the world sees him as Black and which he identifies as

hows it clout chasing when all hes acknowledging is that hip-hop/music scene is all about co signs. hes acknowleding that he got co signed by Ye whos arguably just as big if not bigger than drake worldwide, despite kanye having no direct ties regionally to help put him on to some degree.

Its a cultural difference between American and Toronto Hip hop artists that its like crabs in a barrell for Toronto artist cause Drake in terms of Rap music is the "one" who made it the flood gates never really occurred when it comes to rap music from toronto after Drakes success, other than Tory who had to get love from Americans before Canadian acceptance.

The issue that Sean Leon is referring to that when it comes to the hip-hop/rap scene is that in Toronto it doesnt have much infrastructure and full support the arts scene unless your seen as upholding "decent" canadian morales. Drake and Abel found huge success via the internet at a time when cult like fanbases were a thing on the internet to subvert that "upstanding canadian" morality. The artist that have come after them whos had some notoriety in the states who may be on there hood shit is cause Drake has acknowledged them in some regard whether its on ovo sound radio, bringing them on tour etc etc. ie Pressa, Smiley, Smoke Dawg, Mustafa the poet so on

An artist like Sean Leon falls somewhere in the middle where its not hood music to catch the eyes of american audiences but its also not "canadian" reflecting enough for it to be heavily pushed by Canadian media/ radio etc.

im kinda just rambling but hope you can kinda get the picture that the Canadian music scene itself when it comes to Rap is very gatekeepy, Drake has a lot of involvement in that cause he could really sitdown and use his resources to help build the infastructure with no strings attached but from a marketability standpoint he has a larger audience in America and internationally than he does in Canada strictly from a population standpoint . Toronto and Canada in particularly doesnt help itself when its constantly cutting funding to art programs. Or even the arts program the XO helped build and fund with the colleges here " Hxouse" that was very transformative in creating a creative space across all arts fields and it eventually being sized down.

Its why despite our cultural differences Canadians respect and appreciate America creatives as they are far more willing to offer you a "handout" with no strings attached if they see what your doing is dope.

Canadians will only fuck with you once they see your doing well in America

co-sign cultural is an embedded American thing that Sean Leon is acknowledging that Canadians (toronto) should adopt, but theres a lot of politics involved that starts from the lack of exposure from the top down. So when Abel or Drake dont really objectively do the things for other artist that were done for them it makes the scene in toronto look funny itself given that they are both from the city

Hope this makes sense for non Canadians. The culture here is the difference and Drake has always been in a position to change it and the perception with how much financial/corporate backing he has. Not cause ppl are looking for hand outs

is she from toronto? .. i dont think she is

UsedCommunication575

I swear some of yall lack reading comprehension skills lol he literary says

" I would never claim a free standing building as my own"

explains everything hes trying to put forth is that its weird behaviour for PND to obsess over a visual in his video that he has no ownership over, but then to go through all that back and forth for him just to "take inspiration" from. It is weird. Its just a building. Hes pointing out the weird behaviour

UsedCommunication575

just gonna say this hahaa, we dont claim drake as much as americans think. he we respect black american culture as black ppl first and foremost

UsedCommunication575

John legend always doing the most

UsedCommunication575

Kanyes one of the few producers that is known to pay artists and credit artists for sampling there n minimal contributions to song writing credits. Which is why he often complained about his record contracts

UsedCommunication575

Only thing i will say is the part about Chris Brown is BS cause she doesnt pay him no mind anymore. And Kanye is whatever, they've made a punch of music together in the past.

I can see her not being a fan of the Kardashians mainly cause of Kendall's past with ASAP.

Conflating the Kanye and Chris Brown thing is clickbait and for headlines. When the real issue is ASAP and Kendall dating history rightfully so
