It’s because when you work on earning a degree for 4-5 years, most industries consider that knowing the basics.

In IT/security they tell you it counts for something just not the basics and now you have to compete with people without degrees for entry level help desk roles while everyone you know from college who studied HR, STEM, Finance, Nursing moves right into the job they went to school for that actually requires their degree and is making 20-30k more than you after graduating.

This field does not value degrees at all at the entry level but if you want to move up later down the line you better have one.

Having strict immigration laws about whi can become a citizen is not the same as having barabaric enforcement and killing people randomly in the streets and raping and torturing detainees. The us also forces immigrant detainees into slave labor instead of deporting them.
