Whenever I get out of relationships, I like to set aside a bunch of time to learn about who I am when I'm by myself, living only for myself. I find out that I really like myself for the most part, and there are a lot of things I need to work on for me. So I do those things to work on myself, and new relationships and experiences follow.
In my personal experience (and everyone is probably different here), it takes me about 1/3 to 1/2 the length of the relationship duration (in your case 2.5-4 years) to become fully healed from the wounds of an unwanted breakup. But don't let being a little wounded in the feels completely stop you from having new experiences or opening your heart to new people. It's easy to become distrustful and isolated, but I think it's worth it to put yourself back out there when you feel ready (which may be sooner than you think).

There are tons and tons of resources out there. Khan Academy. Codecademy. w3schools. Heck, you can even get chatGPT to give you a lesson plan and fill it out with resources. Get an IDE. Tinker and run some basic projects. Get your hands dirty.

If your friend's guitar has similar gauge strings and is a similar size, the problem is likely the action. Take it to a shop and have it tuned up. They might do some adjustments on the saddle, nut, and truss rod that will make it take less pressure to get a good sound. Edit to add: More practice is a constant. You will always need more practice.
Once you're done torturing yourself by repeatedly having unsatisfactory weaned portions resetting your brain into nicotine-is-available mode, you'll have to suck it up and never have another hit ever again. Go ahead and eat that slice of cold turkey.
