It's a majority government. They have 4 years to do whatever they want.

Vock

Not an idiot, you just misremembered. It's car tires are the main source of micro plastic pollution. Brake dust is heavy metal pollution.

I'm annoyed that my tax dollars go to give a company a 2 year ROI and the average I'm expected to accept is 7-10 years in the stock market or other programs

Why can't the gov't subsidize or incentivize things at my house (i.e. solar, currently 7-10 year payback) to get the same ROI as a company with my own tax dollars. I'll actually do it.

Vock

Not going to happen. Americans let a half naked man wearing a bear rug take over a capitol building and scatter lawmakers. Most of the insurrectionists were pardoned.

Americans are ok with this.

Vock

Makes sense, why pay $15b in taxes when you can just pay $173M for a new house, essentially 0.06%, and it's an appreciating asset.

Vock

The new normal is to not do anything with your own money, but wait for government to subsidize it. It's a better ROI.

Capital projects at heavy industry don't go ahead without a 1-2 year payback period. It's substantially easier to do that when the government chips in 50%.

Vock

You literally let one of you Capitol buildings get over run by a half naked guy wearing a bear rug on his head.

I think you're a bit out of touch with the reality of the American populace.

Vock

You say "almost" like he's done.

The Ford issue is the public blustering that we should cut off power to the US during the height of tensions in the trade war, which escalated emotions, without knowing that buying power from the US during this maintenance period, for one of the biggest power suppliers in the province that Doug governs, was a very real possibility.

We should expect our Premiers to know what's happening in their province before they start inflaming situations more.

Where do you find your neighborhood association? Facebook?

Vock

I would say focus on the positive in this one.

Forget your FIL, dbags are always going to be dbags.  Focus on that you husband showed up hard for you so you would feel comfortable in your house.

Make that the key memory you take from this.

It would be honestly, you can never get time back. You don't know when your going to die, so the time you have left is precious. There isn't anything about work that says to me "This is how I am meant to be spending my life."

Maybe if it was a start up I believed in, or my own start up. Maybe I can find part time work in a cause I believe in, and that helps to build that dam, but that's just icing on the cake.

You don't know how much life you have left to live, spending an extra day with a stupid 1 hour commute to deal with spending my time on shit reports nobody is going to read other than my direct supervisor, and even that just for grammar. Just no.

Edit: the only reason I can think of is I have a really large purchase coming up that I would want for my retirement. Like a new garage, or something beyond maintenance. Then sure. Otherwise, just no.

Our expenses drop substantially when we retire and get replaced by fun/enjoyment.

In retirement, we are planning on spending $60-70k/yr in living expenses, health costs, house maintenance, car maintenance and travel.

One more year of work means a bigger cash dam in the event of a market downturn. Two more years would likely mean vacation upgrades and the cash dam.

I can see one more year being worth it for security and uncertainty. I don't think we will be able to justify 2 more years. I'm tired of work already.

Aiming to FIRE at 52-53. Two more is not worth it. Better seats won't get me that year of my life back.

It's a global market. There is a reason why US prices have spiked, even if the US can supply it's own fuels.

If there is a ban on exports, you would also need a mechanism for the oil and gas companies to want to sell at below market rates.

Vock

Thank you, I needed to know this.

Vock

Isn't this literally the trifecta of Brave New World?

Vock

It's almost like we shouldn't vote for blustering idiots who don't know who their province actually works or what's going on in it, to avoid situations of feet in mouth.

Vock

If the Government forces this issue, then they would be required to also enforce Algoma honouring their contract US steel for iron ore pellets.

I think they are going to try to find a middle ground, so they also don't hurt Algoma with whatever decision they make.

Vock

This is what the Indian ministers are saying. The article says that this did not come from Canada's government, but it's all statements from Indian ministers

You are already coast FIRE. Your wife is taking all the coasting.

It's unfortunate that we now live in a society where both partners are expected to work if you want to be able to live in an owned property.

You can easily do the math yourself, 36k/yr spending, 50k is around 40k after taxes, so you're fine there.

Your entire retirement is now dependent on the rental properties. That's a bit risky for me being completely centered only in real estate, but a lot of people do it.

The question you asked was who is getting 10% on their assets. My answer was at least everyone invested in broad based index funds.

Musk and Bezos are getting even more. I don't see where you're going with this.

Vock

Everybody invested in broad based US index funds is getting around 10% for the last long while. Check it out if you aren't already invested.

Those look like beer bottles. It looks like they were sorted for someone to come and take them for the deposit.

Maybe they were doing a solid for the homeless.

Vock

Why the hell aren't we implementing minimum quorums for voting for things like elections and referendums.

Like an abysmally low voter turnout sounds not end up influencing the future of anything important
