They're both such strong characters, toe-to-toe with the Doctor, that one is enough at any given time.

WordwizardW

Honi soit qui mal y pense! You should be ashamed for throwing dirt on my approaching a children's show with an innocent mind.

Footloose and fancy-free means she's traveling around (with the Doctor) and not in love.

WordwizardW

Something that showed that she'd actually had sex. "Very available" means that she's willing to ditch Mickey for someone better—particularly that she's interested in Captain Jack, right there—and her mind has gotten away with her. We all think things we don't necessarily mean.

WordwizardW

I don't think it has to do with normalized, but rather that my mind is so pure that I just don't see that as saying what you see it as saying. Now laugh at me. More examples?

WordwizardW

I am doing a NuWho rewatch, and just finished Tennant 10. I didn't see it. Could you please give examples? All I saw was Mickey (possibly a perfectly chaste boyfriend, only saw hugs and kisses) getting the worst of her adventuring. Also, I remember reading that the actor wanted to stop playing Rose because she found it too heavy a burden to be a role-model for young girls. Her next role was certainly highly sexual, in contrast.

WordwizardW

I wish there were a way for him to grow up, and be redeemed, and forgiven, so DW fans could see more of Captain Jack guilt-free. Why, o why, can't a grown man act in public as if children might be around? That's not hard. Though the spunk incident is bizarre. But I wonder if the man-child who did all this and didn't recover is the actor who was needed to portray the character of Captain Jack. For sure, Rogue couldn't take his place (though that could be chalked up to the writer).

WordwizardW

I never noticed anything about Rose's inferred promiscuity. Only her mother's.

WordwizardW

I often perform in Instant Shakespeare Company play readings on Zoom that, alas, have no audience. The others seem to think it doesn't matter, since we enjoy what we're doing, and learn more about the plays, but I think it takes at least one audience member for it to be a true performance, not masturbation. I'm definitely in the minority about that.

WordwizardW

"The BBC probably aren’t likely to do anything with the Doctor’s family when the show comes back because of what happened to Poppy, and Susan and 9 this Christmas on the DW YouTube channel is clearly damage control for wasting Susan."

Please explain? I know only about the TV shows.

WordwizardW

She wasn't his wife back then. And it's only playing a part. And she could regenerate. And the Doctor regenerated.

WordwizardW

This may be true. I cannot say. However, it does not answer the question (which I didn't actually originally ask) as to WHY we didn't see these characters brought back way before now, so they were not minor characters from 20 years ago now. They could have been used again, but weren't.

The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf

I can't write in Garak's voice. But Garak would point out that if the adults didn't like how the boy fulfilled his task, they shouldn't have kept giving it to him night after night, which is also child abuse. The boy acted like an immature kid, because he was one, but the adults were immature, refusing to respond to the REAL alarm because of false alarms before. THAT'S what caused the deaths of the flock and the boy.

I tried to explain that to my father when I was 4, that the moral not to cry Wolf or you won't be believed when it's real was not the most important moral to take from the story, and my father laughed, and said I didn't understand the story. But then he died of cancer because he didn't pay attention to rectal bleeding in time, because he thought it was just hemorrhoids, and left me an orphan. So who didn't understand the story?

WordwizardW

Once. At the latest, after he came back the next time after Rose had brought him back. But there's no shame in someone missing a detail like that, watching separate shows over years. There are so many tiny pieces of lore floating around to keep track of. Don't worry about asking a question like that. This is the place to do it.

WordwizardW

Moisturize! Jack never met Cassandra, but I'm sure the Doctor had opportunity to pass on that tip.

WordwizardW

"the" parallel world? Pete's World is one of infinitely many.

WordwizardW

I thought she was sucked into a random parallel world when she couldn't hold on. That it should turn out to be Pete's World would be quite a coincidence, and wasn't specified.

Don't beat me up if I was wrong.

WordwizardW

I was invited to post here at the time I first posted.

Also, I don't accept that the Doctor couldn't regenerate because River told him he couldn't. He's always been able to at the point of death before, and suddenly he can't?

WordwizardW

So what? She's wrong.

WordwizardW

GRIDLOCK and THE SONTARAN STRATEGEM/THE POISON SKY are pointed at the huge exhaust problem caused by cars.

WordwizardW

ANYTHING over Space Babies, but this is equally bad.
