They sort of did the same with Onion Knight but different.

Writer_Man

I like to think the reason FFI succeeded is because Warrior of Light replaced Cid in the timeloop.

Look, you have to have it be a little crazy or it isn’t the magical world.

  1. Games are four hours with a ten minute break every hour.
  2. Chasers, Beaters, and Keeper remains as is.
  3. The Snitch is not released the first hour.
  4. The Snitch comes in three colors—Copper, Silver, Gold. The first hour it’s released—the second hour of the game—It is copper adds twenty points to the score. The second hour it’s released, it’s silver and adds thirty points to the score. The final hour it’s released, it’s gold, adds 50 points to the score, and can end the game early. Copper and Silver being caught does not mean the next color would not be released, but they only fly about in their designated hour.
  5. The team that catches the Copper or Silver Snitch lose the corresponding hoop on their side. So if Gryffindor caught the copper snitch, they’d lose the copper hoop and their Keeper would only have to defend two hoops the rest of the game. The middle hoop is the gold one.
  6. In the case of a tie, the Seekers will fly an obstacle course race based heavily on turning, banking, and maneuvering where they must fly through seven hoops. The hoop changes color based on the team that went through first. Whoever has the most rings adds ten points to their team’s score to win the game.

He kind of does have to in 358/2 Days. After Beast’s Castle.

Writer_Man

I mean, Roxas and Naminé are basically twins.

No Remake Jessie’s bomb was designed specifically to take out what it did. At worst it was a little under powered. OG Jessie made a bomb that blew up a whole reactor on accident.

Writer_Man

Again, the difference is competence. OG Jessie constantly failed at her job. Remake Jessie was actually a good engineer.

Writer_Man

I’m going to point out that you aren’t really correct about the oversold in the OG. I think you were tricked by the graphics which colored your perception because other than right around Midgar, everything outside Midgar is grassy and green.

Anyway FFVIIR went a more realistic route—Shinra is not obviously evil and that’s why people easily turned a blind eye to them and the cost of Mako.

Writer_Man

It isn’t that Avalanche was more heroic, it was that they were more competent. If you talk to Jessie at the base in the OG, she admits to not knowing what she was doing.

Writer_Man

I mean that’s because you are viewing the destination as the thing to find and not the marker. You can still find the destination and miss the marker though.

Writer_Man

Every single sentiment I find is that the content wanted is to find caves and the like. That’s just using the sub to find somewhere out of water.

Writer_Man

Cid was not held back because of any of that stuff and neither was Shinra Mansion. Those were obvious creative and executive decisions.

It’s amazing they added CID at all in Rebirth. I’m sure you think “they could have just put Rocket Town in” but Rocket Town isn’t part of the Nibel region.

Writer_Man

I didn’t downplay it but you are missing the point. The OG came out in a completely different gaming environment. Hell, a good chunk of gamers only played games like Mario, Sonic, and Metroid. Expectations were completely different.

And all your writing says is that you want the OG but with better translation and gameplay tweaks. Did you really think that’s what they would do?

People started asking for a Remake after AC and the PS3 showcase trailer. It was based entirely on graphics. At the time the expectation was airship and sub would be like FFX with connected areas like FFXII.

And people would be pissed if it didn’t have voice acting. Your desire goes against the core desire of why people wanted a remake at all.

Writer_Man

Characters and Visions have roles that are FFXIII roles. Visions allow you to, for instance, put Terra (Commando) on Fina (Medic) making her a Medic with magic spells focused on damage.

On your battle menu, you choose to use either your skills or your visions skills. Think Persona but the humans have abilities too.

Writer_Man

Everything is cringe to someone. Cringe is completely subjective. Disliking something isn’t the same as something being bad. I used to find FFVI’s opera as cringe and the OG’s version of Seto and Red cringe.

It’s too bad you didn’t enjoy it, others did.

Writer_Man

Land maps can naturally have towns which allows for easier game wide stories, quests, and minigames. In FFVII specifically, the characters don’t naturally travel underwater without a sub so enemy fighting isn’t there.

Writer_Man
  1. Not mandatory.
  2. It’s called having fun.

And what exactly is wrong with it being silly? Did it ruin Rude’s mystique for you? What did him and Reno chatting about crushes in the OG not to do it for you?

Writer_Man

FFVII came out when most rpgs were still
Sprites and was notable for cinematics. That’s a completely different bar of expectations. FFI was notable for the party being four and on the side of the screen.

To me it sounds like you just want to play the OG with maybe some voice acting?

Writer_Man

Land maps are different than water maps.

Writer_Man

Yeah because areas were truncated, you ran over a globe not through a map, and people were willing to accept characters being razor thin.

Writer_Man

But you don’t actually want to do things underwater.

Writer_Man

No, they do in the proper translation. In the English translation we got, Rude tells Cloud to take off his mask instead.
