New refrigerator “quirk”? (old.reddit.com)

Maybe misery does love company! My previous Samsung refrigerator had failed gradually, with the refrigerator compartment slowly loosing the ability to cool. I had bought a sensor to see what was happening.
Well, it finally died, and I found a similar design that happened to be a Frigidaire Gallery model. Bought it at Home Depot and arranged delivery. Since I already had the sensor, I figured why not put it in the new one?
Well, one review commented about how rock-solid the temperature was, so that’s what I was expecting. I just put a few things in, since I didn’t want to throw things out if there was something wrong.
Well, the sensor showed very erratic readings, as low as 31 and as high as 40 degrees. Home Depot has a 48 hour acceptance period, so I reached out to them and they arranged for it to be swapped out.
The new one is delivered and installed, but unfortunately, the sensor shows the same thing. Home Depot again, very accommodating, and agrees to actually refund my purchase entirely. So, I was able to start over. The Home Depot folks did say that another customer had a similar problem with the same model, so maybe it was a bigger problem!!!??!?!
I was tired of not having a working refrigerator, so I made a decision based heavily on immediate availability. I now have an LG - not the design I wanted, but it’s in and appears to be working.
The sensor I have saves the data and can be exported in a .csv file. Showing the data to the Home Depot folks I think is what convinced them I wasn’t blowing smoke.

Of all the Apple devices I’ve owned, this is the one device that I would not debate getting AppleCare on. Even if you are the most careful person in the world, if anything fails on the product outside of the warranty period…

For me, lane changes on interstates or other high-speed roads are the most frustrating. Earlier today, I was in the right lane, about 1/4 mile from my exit (on the right) on the interstate. FSD wants to change lanes and move left! There’s plenty of traffic, so it’s going to tough to get back into the right lane in time to make the exit.
Or a section of the interstates where two of them come together. At one point, it’s 4 lanes, with the right two going to one interstate, and the left two to another. I’m in the second from the left lane, intending to head to the left. (The entire section is probably under 1/2 mile long.) FSD wants to move one lane over, which will take me to the other interstate. With only a short distance to make it back to the correct lane to proceed onto the correct interstate.
For me, these kinds of seemingly random lane changes are some of the more frustrating aspects of the current FSD releases. YMV!

The suggestions about having her disconnect from iCloud make me think about what would happen when she did that and she had “Optimize Storage” enabled. As long as you don’t start cleaning house, you wouldn’t lose pictures. I think the suggestion about you using sharing from your device will be the way to go. No assumption that she’ll have any of the original photos on her phone once she disconnects.
And with the new “improvements” in iOS 27, you can share at full resolution, but they will consume iCloud storage on your device, whereas in previous versions of iOS, some sharing didn’t.
I wish I could be more definitive, but I don’t have that much sharing experience. HOWEVER, I have gotten into trouble with “Optimize Storage”. I very much appreciate it, but it can complicate things.

If you’ve been using “Optimize Storage” for your Photos, think through what will happen if you turn off iCloud syncing on one of the devices. That device will not have full resolution pictures stored locally.
I don’t know what happens in this situation, but I see it as one that can really bite you in the backside. Be careful before proceeding full steam ahead!

You never know when you see the title of a post, where it’s going to go! 😆

If you develop a good set of skills on the areas you listed, I think an interesting career move would be learning how AI could be used to complement those “legacy” technologies. Just like AI has been used to refactor COBOL code, AI is going to be used to improve mainframe management and operations.
You mentioned being placed in a product-oriented role. Maybe get some skills there and see if the company is branching into product areas that incorporate more modern stacks?

I hadn’t known there was such a map - thanks for the post!

Reminds me of Controller for HomeKit - they changed their license model and got tons of bad press, and eventually reversed their plans.

I have an Aqara camera that also has periods where I know there is activity yet there’s nothing recorded in Apple Home. It will capture some motion, but not all.
Curious…

So what are folks looking to replace their Withings scale with? What is a good digital scale that can similarly write to Apple Health WITHOUT subscription?

This is why I have the CCS adapter. While I rarely use it, I love having it as insurance, in the event that I can’t use a Tesla Supercharger, for whatever reason.

Home Depot did replace the unit, no problem. Unfortunately, the replacement is experiencing the same thing. The Home Depot folks have been SUPER supportive. They told me that I was the second person to experience this with the exact same Frigidaire model.
So… they are replacing the replacement this week! I’m changing brands - hopefully it will work as expected. 🤞🤞🤞

Will your job have you commuting traditional hours? Normal rush hour? That can make a big difference.

I’m in Hermitage and have been experiencing buffering on YouTube TV, which rarely happens. Yet their system says all is fine. A Speedtest showed real bad download speeds for a while.

You beat me to it. The whole “Thunderbolt/USB-C” thing is confusing, but you’re right. Get the Thunderbolt dock!!!!

Shouldn’t it stay on the temperature it was set at, at least for a while?
Writing_Particular
It never stayed at the temperature it was set at over the course of more than 2 full days, so I’m hard-pressed to think that this is normal. We’ll see how the next one behaves!
Writing_Particular
Yes, plenty of space on the top, sides, and back.

What Frigidaire model was it?
Writing_Particular
Not in a particularly humid part of the country - middle Tennessee.

This is the sensor I got on Amazon.
