If you wanna skip that encounter with Voss entirely, there's another path onto the mountain pass. By the goblin camp, I believe. I did it one run and still had Voss coming to my camp after the creche.

Overall, no. Melmetal is something to use if you really like it. It'll need its legacy move to really be useful.

For dynamax, Melmetal only has Thundershock as a fast move, so it'll be locked to electric in that phase. There are better options on that front, with Electivire being the most readily available option.

If the GMax gets released, it'll be second only to Zacian for steel.

There are better options for raids, but it's no slouch if you really wanna use it.
