I installed OBS from the Bazaar, so I should have the newest version. It does not have that option. I asked on the OBS Discord and they told me no system with Wayland can do it right now. I'd love for that to be wrong, but yeah.

Looking it over a bit, though a lot is going over my head. That's not a bad thing, I know Linux is more difficult than Windows... I'll have to figure this out a bit on my own time. The link will probably be helpful, at least!

"Your" mind. You again fail to grasp my point. You are, for lack of a better term, being ignorant of the damage it can cause and the fact that it can hurt people. Your mind isn't the only one that matters. In my mind, it's disappointing to see someone continue to rationalize it. Is my opinion less valid? Your mind might fill in the blank and see no difference, but my mind sees an attempt being made to avoid insulting someone. You said context matters, that intent matters. Well, when you avoid saying the full word, you show your intent that you want to avoid any issues. By not doing so, you show that you don't care.
If want to say it, fine, that's your prerogative. But free speech doesn't come with no consequences. You don't seem to want to actually have this conversation, though, as much as I'd like to. You refuse to acknoledge my opinion as valid, saying things such as 'in my mind' as if that's all that matters. That's why its wrong. You aren't the only one in this discussion.
Zachalope64
Honestly, yeah. This is exactly right. Just ignoring it doesn't necessarily make the fear and anxiety I feel go away. It doesn't make me less worried that one day, the word that describes what I view as one of the best parts of myself will be reduced to a common petty insult.
People who care will respect that. It's not difficult to avoid using a word that's been so clearly attached with such hatred. That doesn't mean we can stop the malicious people from doing so, but it does mean that those who aren't can grow and realize that what they're doing is hurtful. That's a good kind of change.
Zachalope64
You seem to have missed my entire point. I said that policing the word was impossible, and I said that it's fine not to want to. I also said that speaking about the concepts is not only okay, but important. You've missed everything I've said and are now trying to rationalize saying the word. It's not hard to be respectful. It's not hard to avoid saying offensive things that can and will hurt others, especially when you run a popular Youtube channel. Arin could've stayed at saying 'the R word.' He did not. He then used the word after using that term, emphasizing that saying the word was okay even if that was not his intent. That is the context. You said context is important, this is the context.
Zachalope64
Yeah, tbh, I did say he said something 'like' it, not that exactly. And that I wasn't trying to get people to police it, that wasn't the point of this at all. Also, cleaned up my phrasing a bit again on the original post.
Zachalope64
Honestly... You kind of proved my point right here. "If specific words gets banned, the people who use them for malicious intents will either come up with new words, or claim other ones. And then that cycle goes on and on and on, and eventually no words are no longer allowed, but the malicious people remains."
Here's the issue. I'm autistic. And my identity was next on the chopping block. Yet none of what you said disproves my point: Being respectful is not difficult. No, I'm telling people they can't say it. But there are consequences TO saying it. You get punished for saying inappropriate words on television because we don't want people utilizing those words, especially influential ones. Such as slurs. You can say that the word has become more powerful, but that's not just because it's looked down upon. It's because it's tolerated, too. Plus, in that instance, it was tolerated and encouraged by Arin when Arin said it AFTER censoring himself. That's an issue. He's giving the malicious people power by doing that.
Was that his intent? No. But that's a result.
Zachalope64
Honestly, this is the exact reaction I hope people get from this. It's a matter of perspective. Autistic was luckily spared much of the degrading when people stopped in general, but some people very much tried. I've seen it. Not much, but I've seen it.
It's a matter of the implication. It's harmful, and to see a word like that used in a derogatory way... It hurts. You can have thick skin, you can shrug it off, but not everone will. Some people legitamately go into depression over petty insults. This kind of thing is important to discuss BECAUSE of that.
I do hope the Grumps see this, if only to basically explain that... this isn't some small whiny issue. This can have consequences. And that should be respected, so should people.
Zachalope64
That's a possibility. And one of the reasons I've brought this up is to figure out if maybe he has learned. It's hard to know if it happened offscreen.
Zachalope64
You aren't being antagonistic, no worries.
Speaking about this stuff is sometimes necessary, I know that. And using it as an example... I get that too. It's why I'm using the R word and autistic as examples. This is a necessary discussion that sometimes needs to be had.
My issue is that he somewhat... rationalized and excused it. He said something along the lines of 'You can't stop others from saying it, so what's the point?' and proceeded to use it. That's disrespectful.
I don't expect him to police the word. I understand the point that policing it has become somewhat impossible. But it's not hard at all to lead by example, to make yourself better so that you don't lead to more issues. That's the main issue I have.
Zachalope64
Unfortunately, it did. I haven't watched it since. I can't recall something being said that so quickly made feel... utterly appalled. The Grumps have said many things that I don't agree with, but they were also respectful. The way this particular instance came off didn't feel that way. And Arin emphasized that by calling it the R word at first, THEN changing to the word itself. That was intentional, and I remember it very clearly.
I know Arin didn't mean harm from it. But that's still harmful. Intent is sometimes missed when dealing with such dangerous language. That's part of my point.
Zachalope64
At the same time, I'm trying to get my thoughts out. Just as he has the right to do so, I should as well. I feel like respect by avoiding words with such harsh meanings isn't hard to do. It really isn't. That word carries meaning behind it. That meaning is what will be understood regardless of intent to many others.
Zachalope64
"Look, I may hate the guy. And sure, he's my dad and all. But I can't argue with abs like that."
