Jesus christ dude. I literally haven’t had anyone be this big of an asshole to me when I was defending abortion in r/pcm. Reread your comment and ask yourself if it’s something you would be comfortable with anyone you like seeing. I get that you are passionate about this, but is calling me an illiterate layman with a shallow understanding of genetics really a strategy you thought would get you anywhere?

I’m not ignorant on this topic, I’ve written papers about it and my opinion is well informed. You just can’t imagine that anyone would have come to a different conclusion.

In fact, one of the courses I just took was genetics at Johns Hopkins, where there were several units on race! The Johns Hopkins genetics department is actually what informs most of my opinion on this matter, so somewhere along the way some major miscommunication happened with you and your close friend. Not only did they utter the word, but they actually discussed it! So either my professors and my (written in the last 40 years) textbook are just absolutely full of shit, or you have erred in your interpretation of modern genetics.

You are willfully misinterpreting a reasonable scientific consensus (race is shallow and ultimately not hugely significant) into an extreme one (race doesn’t even exist at all).

I don’t know what to tell you. We are either defining “race” or “biological” differently from one another. You can’t just claim that medical differences have no basis in race. It’s demonstrably true, no matter how strong your conviction otherwise. Genetic risks sometimes fall along racial lines. You can argue that these are “populations” or whatever you please but they are populations based on race. It’s not saying people from Kentucky are more at risk than people from New Jersey.

Have you really read all the books you suggested to “educate” me? For example, I have read parts of “Race: Debunking a Scientific Myth” and absolutely nowhere does it try to claim that race doesn’t exist. It even covers the origins of race in geographic isolation. If anything, the author just ends up redefining race because he for some reason operates on the base assumption that everyone thinks genetic differences between races are extremely deep and well defined, which is a silly assumption and bordering on a straw man.

Races do in fact have a biological basis. Their significance is overblown by culture but that doesn’t mean they’re made up. It would be remiss to pretend they weren’t real because genetic differences that follow racial patterns are often important for medical care. What is true is that there is way more variation within races than between them, so there is absolutely no genetic basis for treating different races as different “kinds” of humans (looking at you, Watson). You might have also been thinking of ethnicity, which is a social construct, albeit one often closely tied to race.

This is not quite true, there are definitely alleles that are drastically more/less frequent across racial lines such a sickle cell and cystic fibrosis.

Well done aesthetically but I’m not sure ship customization is something the community wants

_Kansas_

This is categorically untrue. I’m an atheist myself but even a rudimentary investigation of religion will revel several “religious” rules which serve a more communal purpose than a religious one, such as those regarding charity (to the impoverished, not to the religion), hygiene, etc.

Weird. I was able to buy one at mine. Guess I got lucky.

_Kansas_

You could have built a galactic trade terminal and bought a magnetic resonator…

_Kansas_

Great reminder, thanks. I’ll go and delete my bases today. I was really disappointed by the etiquette of others (someone claimed the site of my ship while I was out getting copper and built a house around it, had to report to continue) so it’s the least I should be doing.

I literally cannot think of a more abundant resource than silicate powder

_Kansas_

Actually it is two lists of hashes maintained by two separate non-government entities, and only the overlaps are used.

_Kansas_

Not even when deciding whether to assimilate them?

_Kansas_

I personally prefer finding the ships. If customization for ships were added, it would really devalue the ships people have worked hard to find. It’s become a pretty integral part of the game, so it would be a massive change, even if it would be easy to implement.

On a related note, I don’t really like the way player customization works. You get almost every option from the get-go and as a result no configuration of your player feels special/earned. I’d be really sad if that happened to my ships.

If we’re going probability wise, god is likely a beetle.

Don’t be an idiot. What would you even call rice like that?

They aren’t an ant colony

The borg were originally intended to be insectoid, but making anything non-humanoid at the time ended up being cost prohibitive. The look of the borg changed, but many of their characteristics remained the same as the original concept, including the prominence of the queen. There’s really no rhyme or reason to the borg as we know them having a queen, so I’m not sure an argument exists that isn’t conjecture based.

Screw off

_Kansas_

Wow your memory is really good

_Kansas_

Just don’t be silly and you’ll be fine. Stay in your group, don’t go at night. I go to Waverly all the time like this and I’ve never had an issue.

Big pipi in your pampers energy

Don’t mark this as academic when it is clearly market research/profit driven. Screw off.

The best advice I can give you for physics is to record every single formula mentioned in the videos on a formula sheet. Then for each problem, find out which variables you are given and find the formula that uses all of those variables and the one you need to find. This strategy pretty much works for the whole class, both semesters.

This needs more attention. And let me know in the menu if I’ve already scanned a planet. I don’t even need more information than that.

The report will be anonymous, so if the offender is going to trace it back to the victim based on context, it will not matter who actually submitted the report. For better or for worse though, I think JHU is extremely unlikely to do anything unless the assault happened to a student.

_Kansas_

If it didn’t happen to you then it’s not your decision whether or not to report it. Unless the person who was assaulted asked you to specifically and gave you the details required to make a useful report, you aren’t qualified to make a report.
