I’ll put it this way. A competitor almost surely exists that I can get from a trusted store instead of your sketchy website. No brainer.

This comment is getting a lot of hate, but it’s valid. Depending on what you are looking for this city can be great or it can be subpar.

Had a friend run for city councillor in Calgary and he needed 100 signatures. Not even for mayor. 25 is insanely low.

Lucky. In Alberta it’s ass. The “good bakeries” like Glamorgan are literal trash. There are newer better bakeries but many people here love the old style “bread”.
abear247
Is it? Why does Canada grow so much wheat but make such ass bread 😭😭😭
abear247
I would immediately just scroll past this because of the AI

Go to brick and mortar. Whether the education is better or not, uni is about way more than just the courses. Socialize, grow as a person, make meaningful connections. You work for the next 40+ years of your life. Enjoy some student life while you can, it’s literally priceless imo. I’ll forever have fond memories and lifelong friends that I wouldn’t get from WGU

Alberta was projecting a massive deficit until Trump started a war and spiked oil prices. If it wasn’t for that “luck” Alberta would be performing poorly. The province is a one trick pony at this point, even going so far as to actively reduce alternative energy.

Yeah, it’s crazy. Our buses being super infrequent AND not timely is a big problem. I feel like I need to give a 10 minute window either side to catch the bus since it might come early or late by a good margin. If you miss it, the next one isn’t for a long time.
abear247
This one really pisses me off. Bus doesn’t show up and I need to uber? I’m hit twice because I might not be going anywhere else and then the pass expires. So the lousy service means I need to spend extra for an uber and forfeit money for the bad service. Crazy.
abear247
But if you have both you can cook food in the instant pot and rice in the rice cooker at the same time and have a full meal
abear247
People could easily use this to go see concerts. Faster would be better of course. Also, keep in mind the busiest flight path in Calgary is Edmonton. A lot of people might choose to take the train instead of flying, considering the extra time spent on either side of a flight (getting there early, going to/from airports, etc).

Completed the degree, but haven’t switched jobs so 🤷
abear247
This is ai, isn’t it?
abear247
Why would I ever download a PWA instead of a normal app? This is the kind of pipe dream web devs who can’t hack mobile love. I’m not downloading something from your sketchy site.
abear247
Yes, now that I contribute to web as well I usually have one task mobile and one web at the same time. That might be a real ticket, it might be cleaning up tech debt. But at almost all times 2 tasks are going at a time.
abear247
I think the issue is the size of teams will reduce. We work in a small team and push out lots of code. We have someone specialized in areas (mobile for me) and they own that part of the stack. We set out the rules and own our portion and others can contribute. Without ai our team would need to be double the size. We have been able to do significant tech debt refactors that would have taken ages. Moving from ObservableObject to @Observable for all view models for example. Would have taken months manually (partly since you can’t justify spending a couple sprints only on tech debt).
So yeah, humans steer the ship. We set out the guidance, review the code, decide the architecture and future direction. We just don’t need so many people to implement it anymore.

Hiked tent ridge awhile ago with some friends. I didn’t know it had a scramble, but this isn’t really an issue for us. We did see some guy and his… decently elderly mom really struggling on the scramble. They shouldn’t have been there.
As for the exposure, as we were walking along the ridge our watches started buzzing and we saw our the hair on our friend standing on end. Everyone on the ridge got off the top to avoid the lightning, thankfully nothing hit. It had been clear skies and the weather wasn’t due for another hour or two. People definitely do not realize this when going up there.

I have an unrelated degree, a bootcamp, and 9YOE. I got an MSCS because I was worried about not having the credentials. Haven’t left my job so idk if it will matter at all. It was kinda gruelling and with AI now feels like a mostly useless piece of paper lol.
abear247
There are apps that do this generally. If I want to block screen time, I’ll just use those. They even have ones that require a physical item.
abear247
I’ll put it this way. Worked for a company with equity, looked like they could make it. They ultimately sold for penny’s and investors lost massive sums of money. The last raise was 150m like series e and they sold for 100m.
They had offers for hundreds of millions in 2021. They didn’t sell, kicked out founder and tanked the company. Even if the company does well enough to exit there is no guarantee they will be smart enough to do so.
abear247
Then move to a small town lol. If you want the amenities of a big city you require a big city population. In order for that to work effectively you need proper zoning and transit. Geometry limits vehicles and you just can’t get around that.
abear247
Ever been to Tokyo? The issue isn’t all the people it’s our zoning and transit.
abear247
Judgement against my credit rating? Lmao. It’s not like I just bounce and not pay. Arrangements can usually be made with a landlord to find a new tenant. I would likely need to pay some extra money in the process to find a replacement.
A few years ago I joined a codebase with viper. Apparently it was so controversial devs quit over it.
While coupling and separation of concerns was great… it was clunky to change. The friction to update so many files for something simple was too much. We just moved to mvvm over time.
