I hear you. I'm new to vibe coding and it's not as simple as you may think. But yes, it's completely possible. Not sure if this post was inspired by the recent Adobe Suite news about it being cloned, buts it's a very big topic. We are very rapidly reaching the age of most software being cobbled together for each individual users purposes. Im currently working on an AI assisted plugin chain plugin like Carla that creates a plugin chain and adjusts parameters for each plugin according to my prompt, to use in my workflow. I'll probably put it on Github or my patreon when it's done.

Cosmic is great! Everything in the Linux world has pros and cons. I started with PopOS but COSMIC was actually a problem for my audio software so I just switch the desktop to GNOME and I actually like it even more. Now I still have the Nvidia compatibility with something that works for me. Just get started and use the old Google to guide you.

This TBH

For the Nvidia support PopOS seems very good. Then just switch your Desktop to GNOME. There'll be some setting up to get Gnome running how you'd like, though. But Gnome is apparently excellent for a laptop track pad.

I have had the same experience. I have very few reasons to use windows if any.

It was a work around. I like cosmic but it ended up being incompatible with my music software.

adinwalls

Yes and I went from that to almost always using AI mode. It saved me hours.

TBH I had to switch to GNOME because COSMIC and specifically their decision to move to Wayland windows server cause incomptibilites with my professional software. But COSMIC was cool for the short time I used it 😉

This looks really great. I will test it on my new track this week.

There are very good videos on YouTube for popos.

There's alot to consider. If music is the only pro work you're going to do then alot of people recommend Arch infrastructure. But I went with Pop because of Nvidia support and compatibility with Da Vinci Resolve. I must say, if you put all your requirements into an AI chat it like Gemini you'll get a clinical (no opinion) feedback on what's best for you. For example for me my criteria was that I wanted something that had a nice modern and attractive desktop, had to run da Vinci resolve and Mixbus 12, and I noted that I had an Nvidia gpu, no on board graphics. I have Pop OS with a Gnome desktop and it's fantastic for what I need.

I installed PopOS and then realised Mixbus 12 (music software) wasn't compatible with Cosmic desktop. However I switched to Gnome and I love it. But I mostly use everything as is. I just added some dependencies for my pro software and I prefer Nautilus file manager. I like the fact that they're actively working on Nvidia compatibility and that Da Vinci resolve works relatively well on the Ubuntu/Debian system.

I use the Arturia Minifuse 2 and I absolutely love it. It has a hardware/software monitor blend knob and a separate speaker volume and headphone volume knob with 2 high quality inputs. It also has a USB hub port which I recently realised is excellent for plugging in my midi controller. It works quite seemlessly with Mixbus 12 on my Pop! _OS system.

Hey nothing specific but Pulse Audio is a very stable system that's capable of managing very high quality audio.

Reaper is probably your best best for something simple. But you have to build everything up yourself. It's pretty bare bones in the beginning.

Very much a similar situation. I chose Luna a year ago for the great aesthetic and excellent focus on a good signal chain with their saturation features. But it has always crashed alot but recent it has gotten very bad. I was getting weird audio glitches in my takes. And now I see a new DAW has been launched that I have to pay for to upgrade. I have actually moved to a niche DAW called Mixbus which I can highly recommend as a Luna alternative although there aren't alot of great plugins included, the core system is really nice and it's only $30

adinwalls

No, it's a tiny chord synth called a minichord. Very cool...

Are you talking about audio listening, as in using a Linux machine to play music or are you referring to audio production? I agree with the comment that says "people on the internet" is the worst resource for this. There are alot of good reputable people out there that look into these things, it will just take a moment to weed out the idiots 😜

This is really great Thank you
