I'm looking to make my first build. My budget is ~$120. I'm not sure whether to buy a cheap prebuilt and swap out the switches, or start from scratch with a barebones. Why are the barebones frames as expensive or more than the prebuilts?

It sounds like you like the idea of being an artist rather than actually doing the art. And that’s ok, in fact it’s better to know.

If I’m wrong, then I recommend starting small. Super small. Like a 2 min short film, or a 1 minute song, or a 1 level platforming game. Make 100 terrible, awful, no good pieces of art, and you will eventually make something good.
