Not gembone, that only comes from very specific locations.
You would also see agate in the tiny holes (vugs)

Opalized pet wood, check out saddle mountain as it may be from there

I’m going to be honest, I was trying to avoid replacing the windows and seals until I mucked it out, but it sounds like I need to just do it.
I’ll look into replacing the windows and sealing. The plastic also makes a lot more sense I may do that if all else fails
akrhrkf
Oh interesting on the bottom lip where it meets the metal? That’s something to consider
akrhrkf
Oh yeah it definitely had a lid, but it has two windows and they may have some micro cracks? Maybe the mist is getting through? But even after an hour of sitting it will still mist
akrhrkf
Weird it was supposed to be a different Tolstoy quote ai probably just made something up
akrhrkf
I’m sure it was ai sadly…thanks both for the help
akrhrkf
Oh that’s so cool! Thanks for the id!
akrhrkf
Thanks! I’m obsessed with it, can’t stop staring
akrhrkf
Yeah I probably will slab it. I’m not a skilled enough cabber to mess around with it. The heel probably will make a good specimen peice. I’m really hoping the patterns get wilder the deeper in I go
akrhrkf
That’s a good point, there’s almost no matrix. It’s faced on both sides but I could get quite a few slabs. Thanks for all your insight!
akrhrkf
Definitely, not that profit is all I care about but want to know what I have. Someone told me that it could go for 1.75 a gram so that price per pound sounds right
akrhrkf
I’m new to cabbing and haven’t even touched metal work. Perhaps I hold onto it until I do. Thanks for the input!
akrhrkf
Not a bad idea, I’d have to find someone with a more precise saw. Don’t want to waste any of this
akrhrkf
Yeah that a big part of the problem, I know it can be really valuable but not sure what it’s worth.
I bought it for 5$ and I know that was a damn good deal!
akrhrkf
It’s pet wood

I appreciate the feedback and love your work.
It was inside a shop, a hoarder shop but still something.
The arbor turns well and the motor is in great condition.
I would love to get a new 6 wheel set up but it just isn’t financially viable for me to atm. I don’t know I may clean it up a bit and see if anything can be done
akrhrkf
Yeah I think I’ll try to fix it and use it for the earlier grits. Maybe get a two wheel arbor for the final wheels. Thanks for your advice and thorough explanation!
akrhrkf
I think I’m going to try! The housing seems solid and I think it’s worth saving!
That is closer than I thought but still not gembone sadly.
With gembone the outside displays cell structure too.
If you want to learn more about gembone check out the boneyard on fb
