We don't necessarily have to nerf Cecilia's ability to heal others in potency, but rather in mana cost.

Maybe it's the result of an unknown Factor that lets Cecilia cast offensive and self-healing magic at a fraction of a cost, but in exchange her ability to heal others uses more mana than normal, which is a problem because she doesn't have Rudeus's nigh-bottomless well of mana.

I have to admit that the anime is rather mediocre on top of choosing V1 C1-C2 to adapt. Don't get me wrong—I love Abydos and V1 is a good introduction to Kivotos in the game, but it's not Volume 3 or Volume F. Adapting one of the weaker volumes + mediocre production will cause the flaws of the adaptation to be glaring.

If I were to mention the things I really liked about the anime, it's the banger of an OP and the fact that we know who Yume's VA is thanks to it.

Oh, and Episode 8. I know it's the one episode that was mostly anime original, but it's also the episode that actually best captures the SoL side of BA.

Budget constraints is a major concern. Having to fit 3-4 long LN books into a 24x12 format isn't a cakewalk. Many scenes don't translate to animated format as-is and have to be changed—or even outright cut in some cases.

And every so often, there's Director hubris, who decides they'd rather make their own story instead of following the source material, though Japan does a good job of generally following the source material compared to, say, Hollywood. There are also cases where it's the author themselves requesting for the changes.
