I contend it is arbitrary and a knee-jerk overreaction dressed up as a safety. If permitting wasn’t required - like my install - not required. 4% safety would be more than enough - 48 amp. That’s my electricians stated point of view.

You may also have noticed I'd already used a 48 amp EVSE on the same plug circuit successfully - but it was a rather lame Chinese EVSE that I dumped later on.

It has nothing to do with code. It has to do with a chosen safety value and is not enforced. The breaker does not cap my load to 40 amp: it caps it to 50 amp! It's not a sandbox environment. :)

I was told by my electrician in no uncertain terms I can go to 50 amp. My EVSE tries to dissuade me from going above 40 amp even though there is provision for 48 amp charging in the equipment. The previous EVSE I used was not very good but could manage 48 amp easily. I am torn. I could punch it up to 48 amp but is there a reason to?

Status update: I never did find out what was causing M106 and M107 to be double defined. I commented out from gcode_macro.cfg and installed Klipper Gcode Shell Command to get gcode_shell_command working (it was being used in the camera config) and I'm up and running again. The two cameras aren't working but they were lower priority on the triage. I installed the replacement script that's supposed to make the two cameras work. They report fps though, they just don't appear. Baby steps.

Oh, and I found it hadn't download opkg.conf properly. I used curl and replaced it with the right file. That made this go away. Not sure why it failed.
