Beautiful!

archover

Yes, it's showing improvement :-)

Good day.

There's back lash in the Windows community over MS AI slop, accounting for many leaving MS.

Good day.

Amazing people post about problems like this without reviewing the Journal. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd/Journal

I hope you resolve your issue, and adapt to this DIY distro. If you're primarily interested in the technical end of Linux, you should be really happy here.

Good day.

I suggest installing an Intel wireless card. Good day from the USA.

archover

I will wait for the horror movie version of this post, though I wish you success.

Good day.

Agree. Those who require instant gratification need apply elsewhere.

Good day.

Please indicate what specific troubleshooting you've performed. Good day.

Ok good to hear.

Curious if you know what chroot is now? It's useful.

Good day.

What kitten-hood and cat-hood should be. Two cats who are besties.

I have two cats from one litter, and they sadly are just acquaintances. No lovey dovey.

Thanks for sharing

Welcome Pilgrim :-)

I encourage you to step through, and understand this document: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide, which introduces you to concepts like potentially unfamiliar mounting and chroot. Two things you will definitely need in your Arch career.

Archinstall defers the necessary learning curve till later, while the Guide above pushes you through the curve immediately. I find the latter more natural and helpful, but people differ.

Youtube is great for ideas, but for config, use the wiki.

Hope you can make this DIY distro your new home, and good day.

archover

I think that's a "NO", and I'm happy with that also.

Hope you can adapt to the Arch Way.

Good day.

You're very new to Reddit so won't know, but your post achieved a 5% upvoted rating. Good idea to read this subreddit more, in my experience.

I have three T480 units, but never felt the need for coreboot. In any case, try r/thinkpad as there is tremendous expertise there. (Mentioned since you hadn't)

Note that T480 successor vintage units are inexpensive on ebay in case you give up on yours. (My advice).

Good day.

I tend to agree. Kate is simple enough there won't be yet another learning curve to face, just to take notes.

Something else to consider is that doing hand written bullet points in class, and then filling in details right when the class ends, is better for learning. So they say.

Problems installing grub

Supported: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB Please use this document when configuring grub so support on this subreddit can be provided. See #1

Unsupported: https://youtu.be/U8uMmsJQTZM?is=K5CBhT3Zo9hc3X7X Using this video for configuration means seeking support on that channel, as is expected.

Good day.

If your reading comprehension and direction following skills are already good, the Arch install should be no issue. The key document, Installation Guide, is at 9th grade reading level.

I like your attitude toward learning this DIY distro. Note too that Arch is 99% Linux.

There's no part of install that stands out as especially problematic. The closest being the bootloader however. See my first line.

Good day.

Scan this https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/ASUS#ZenBook for ideas.

Next time, add more info about about your concerns. Reading this subreddit to learn what post detail works is helpful too.

Good day.

First, understand that the choice of partition scheme and FS are highly subjective, and subject to opinion. Similar to DE choice.

LVM can work too. I used it for many years. Even though LVM has features ext4 does not, it pales in comparison to btrfs. Both in features and complexity. I don't find btrfs to be especially friendly but many new comers make it work

One could argue that KISS would say to use the same FS on both drives, and preferably ext4. After more than 15 years with Arch, it's what I do. But, I use one sufficiently large drive for / and my personal files.

btrfs is full of amazing technology if nothing else!! (Most people love snapshots, but for me, bare subvol implementation and use case is brilliant)

You have the luxury of having so much disk space it's like a solution looking for a problem, though no indication of your use case.

No reference to this key article so here it is: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Partitioning

Also, if you actually have 5TB of data, consider what you will back it up to.

Hope you find a config you like and good day.

archover

The presence of Snap in Arch is a bit unusual. Perhaps explain that choice.

Nothing to say about your screenshot otherwise.

Good day.

These are important points that should help you decide if Arch is right for you:

you believe an operating system should configure itself, run out of the box, and include a complete default set of software and desktop environment on the installation media.

And this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_Linux

It is targeted at the proficient GNU/Linux user, or anyone with a do-it-yourself attitude who is willing to read the documentation, and solve their own problems.

I like to say that Arch requires just two things: a) Reading comprehension sufficient to read the wiki, and b) ability to follow directions.

Hope you can adapt to Arch, and good day.

Happy to help.

Please give the fix that works for you, and then change flair to SUPPORT and then add SOLVED

Good day.

archover

This appeals to me. Along with the Alpinist homage. Thank you.

archover

On second view, I think the contrast is fine. Love the vintage look!

archover

Thank you for giving fix and the SOLVED flair. Good day.

archover

Thank you for that. Good day. :-)
