They show % of territory lost.

They could show % of population lost on both sides to war casualties and emigration.

artsrc

I hope that NATO is not impartial.

artsrc

Some people thought Ukraine would get “clapped by” Russia very easily.

Me, I don’t know.

artsrc

I have downvoted your mod in this context.

The convention on genocide is easily googled.

https://treaties.un.org/doc/publication/unts/volume%2078/volume-78-i-1021-english.pdf

The UN commission by a noble prize winning judge found Israel perpetrated genocide:

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/09/israel-has-committed-genocide-gaza-strip-un-commission-finds

Australia is obligated to act against genocide as a signatory.

Vote for either you get both.

artsrc

After WWII and the holocaust, all nations, including Australia vowed never again, and signed a treaty committing us to preventing genocide.

This phrase means we will honour our promise.

artsrc

The libs ignored their own rules.

Labor was upfront about the nature of their program.

artsrc

The intent is the same. Election funding promises serving political purposes.

One difference is sports rorts used a specific program that had rules that were violated.

Why do people say things like this?

You should probably take some time to learn basic economics...

Price is the number one factor influencing demand in any economy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supply_and_demand

These taxes shift the supply curve, which changes the equilibrium quantity and price. The demand curve is not impacted by these taxes.

If you want to speak about economics as though you know it, then you should speak about economics as though you know it.

Less than $1 of the price of a pint of beer at a pub is excise on the alcohol.

There is also 10% GST.

Price can be a factor in the consumption. Taxes on beer have not significantly increased in real terms and so they are not a big factor in changes in patterns of consumption.

This change is not a matter of economics (the creation and distribution of goods and services), it is about culture.

artsrc

Corruption implies some kind of dishonest or illegal action.

This was specifically made public, they made election commitments they wanted people to know about.

artsrc

What Lib and Labor rusties say is "that is how our system works".

I live in what was once a safe seat. My advice to people who live in safe seats is to get rid of your current member and their party.

If people won't change their vote it is harder to get change.

Without a sobor answer to question about our goals and a strategy to deliver them, we need to consider our level of engagement.

Are we just prolonging a death fest? Are we making a positive contribution to a good outcome? Are we doing too little? Too much? How did we arrive here?

There has been zero accountability for our failures in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is not as though the Taliban and Saddam are/were good people. That is not the point. What were the costs and benefits of our engagement.

Assuming all your points are accurate:

  1. Lots of destruction: Russia is using jet powered drones and ballistic missile to pummel Ukrainian cities (and electricity and ports). Russian refineries, data centres and Amazon type warehouses have been going up in smoke.
  2. No immediate prospect of a military result - the frontline is practically static
  3. Nothing is going to stop a bloodthirsty dictator from pursuing his dreams of imperial conquest and prioritising his regime's survival. Russia will keep going on.
  4. Ukraine's allies are at best half hearted and at worst going to back the other side - Musk and Trump kneecapped Ukraine briefly.

The most significant price for most people is housing.

Melbourne rents are lower than any other mainland capital, and there houses are close to the lowest, and have had the lowest increase.

artsrc

National held seats are poor. Before the teals took them, the Liberals held the wealthiest electorates.

artsrc

But you have to change both numbers then. What percentage of funds went to electorates that were Labor before the election?

artsrc

Ukraine is doing much better than was initially anticipated.

I follow the war somewhat. Ukraine does not publish their casualties, and seems unable to reliably stop Russian ballistic missiles.

I don’t trust my information sources on how things are going.

It is possible Russia plans attrition till Ukraine gives up and loses. Can you rule that out based on your sources? Is that what we want to facilitate?

I have not heard anyone claim Ukraine has a realistic chance to drive Russia out of their territory.

Whatever the truth we should take an independent look at this, and deliver a hard headed judgement.

I am fine with an extra 15% income tax on income over $100K to create the resources necessary to actually win if that is what the experts really believe.

I am not OK with being a thoughtless part of another in a string of costly US led defeats.

artsrc

It really is not good enough to prolong a defeat. We actually a realistic strategy to win.

The Afghan Taliban were not great humanitarians, but fighting them for decades without a realistic strategy for victory was a mistake.

artsrc

A supply shock reduces growth and increases prices, inflation and unemployment together. Thanks Trump.

artsrc

Is inflation easing?

Of course I don’t know.

The September monthly is out on:

RemindMe! 2026-10-28 11:30 AEDT.

The last sep was 0.5%, so i expect (70% chance) headline inflation to decline from 4.0% on base effects, but that is about what happened a year ago.

What happened last month was higher transportation and alcohol/tobacco. Everything else was low. Those were both about tax changes.

I think domestic inflationary pressures may be there. Wages are strong.

artsrc

What I am curious about is, if negative gearing is attractive, and is still available (along with the 50% CGT discount) for new build, do we see the market responding to that incentive?

artsrc

The article is wrong.

Looking comparatively, we see the RBNZ approach, inflation only, delivered more unemployment, lower growth, and similar inflation outcomes.

artsrc

How much hydrogen creation plant do you get for $25B?

artsrc

Smart first home buyers are letting prices ease a bit.

The mechanism for this to help first home buyers is lower prices.

artsrc

Those indicators don’t really show a full quarter with these concessions.

RemindMe! 2026-11-11

artsrc

Negative gearing is still allowed for actual new housing investment, new homes.

It just can’t be used to outbid owner occupiers on existing homes.
