Came here to say this. I have travelled many times with one or both my kids and always have a folder with notarized authorization, signed travel plan, copy of documents, etc. Have never been asked to show any of this. Worse, my teenager son travelled alone this summer, prepared the same folder for him and he was never asked for any of it, the only question? Where are you going to stay ….. it’s scary to say the least.

OP, tell your friend to go public. Call TV and radio stations. CBC is always on the listen (I speak from experience) I say this not only because it might be enough pressure so the insurance pays but because a lawyer or advocate group might see it and reach out to you. All the advise above is on point, your friend just needs a little push too, anyone who gets to know this story will be shocked, support and help will ensue. She will need a lawyer, civil suit might be in the play.

Hey OP you’re right, sad truth is that this applies for adults too; you’ll find as you go through life that some people have pre conceived ideas and think they know what you’re all about... the only difference is that as you go you develop this amazing capacity (hopefully) to call bullshit and actually see the projection of others onto us. Also, as we get older we can quietly say fuck you and turn it into a beer story with friends, highly satisfying. It’s the little things... but yeah, fuck that.
