They're moving in herds. They do move in herds.

Black Ghost Knifes are great. I had one for a long time that got huge, it would do loops in the tank. You can also pick up their electrical signals with the right equipment, which is pretty cool.
Shrimp will absolutely get eaten. Maybe if you had the tank fully populated with thousands of cherry shrimp you could manage it, but I wouldn't count on it even then.
They are territorial, but only care about other electric fish, I never saw signs of aggression with other fish. They'd probably eat small slow fish if they caught them, but they aren't especially predatory. You could keep them with a lot of other species without problems.
Other thoughts....they can be a bit shy, especially when small (when they get bigger they stop caring in my experience). Give them more places to hide and they'll come out more, but the real trick is that if you get a clear tube, they'll hide in it because it looks solid to their electric senses.

And honestly even in combat, it's more a result of all the rolls and decisions of that combat even if one roll is responsible for the killing strike
atomfullerene
It's close enough to level to not give you any issues with a tank that shallow.
atomfullerene
There's a lot of "English treat their dragons bad but everyone else in the world is super enlightened". It was fine but I would have liked a bit more nuance.

I had a clownfish that would visciously attack my hand every time I put it in the tank. Fortunately for me, it would only ever attack the gem on my class ring, which I suppose was serving the same purpose as an eye-spot, and acting as a decoy weak spot on my hand. I never actually got bit at all, but I could feel it thwacking into the ring.

I guess they were running based on D&D rules. In 5th edition, an animal's jumping ability is based on it's strength score, and since elephants have a high strength score, according to the rules as written, they can jump much farther than, say, a housecat.

To be fair, in a series that's running that long, starting low does provide some room for growth.

The Triassic and weird marine tetrapods, name a more iconic duo.
atomfullerene
That's more likely to be an issue in the future, right now people care more about the party in power.

Things that irk me: All my life growing up I see "you wouldn't download a car" and FBI warnings and people getting in trouble for torrents and companies being all very concerned about their copyrights.
Then AI comes along and mulches up every bit of copyrighted material on and off the interenet for their own profits, and I hardly hear a peep from the big media companies. At least until some user uses the AI to make something with all that training data, in which case it's the user who gets in trouble and not the AI company whose product is actually doing the work.

It's not that there's no difference, it's that they'd both be forbidden under the rules above, because the differences aren't accounted for in those rules.
atomfullerene
Patented, not copyright. You can patent things like that (with certain constraints) but not copyright them.

A good recent example is basically everything in the recent He Man movie, but especially Skeletor.

Where I live in the mountains, the trees often turn a beautiful mix of orange, red, and gold in the fall...because they are on fire.
Nervous joking about wildfires aside, I grew up in the Appalachians and moved west. When I first moved out here I saw one of those local tourist brochures and it had a segment about fall color, which included a mention about this particularly nice maple...which I thought was pretty funny if you have to mention individual trees for fall color.
In general we get a scattering of colorful trees in the valleys and in town, then conifers up the slope.
Another big difference is weather. At least in the southeast, fall tends to be fairly dry, or at least less humid. Here, fall is when it starts getting more humid. It starts raining again, and you see fog and wisps of clouds around the mountainsides, which is very pretty.

The title is wrong, they endorsed Acton

I see no problem with this comment. Even leading aside this dumbass war, it's pretty damn important to get rid of the guy who is currently going through the military trying to get rid of anyone who isn't a Trump loyalist.
atomfullerene
Hm, interesting. I think I probably generally read what you call bland writing faster because of it's very blandness means there's not much to slow down for.

Here's one I haven't seen: In the American West, Jefferson asked Lewis and Clarke to look for ground sloths, to help prove a point about the size and impressiveness of American nature compared to European nature. Various naturalists traveled the west, and elsewhere, documenting species. Cope and Marsh traveled west to dig up fossils, and were constantly feuding over them, to the extent their conflict is called the Bone Wars.
You could riff off this and have some naturalist (or unnaturalist) from some magic academy traveling to study the creatures of the area.
atomfullerene
Being better at magic is itself a pretty good reason

Rangeomorphs probably top the list, especially if I am allowed to get a tissue sample gene sequenced. I want to know what those things in the ediacarian were.
For similar reasons, a living Tullimonstrum would be great to know what it actually was.
Other than that, a really big sauropod or azdarchid, just to see how something at that extreme size functioned

Relics! There's a great blackadder clip about this which I can't link because mobile is being stupidly difficult

If your job is to get people to vote, you want to try to get them to vote early. First of all, because for most people voting up early opens up more possiblities for schedules, etc, than voting on voting day. It's easier to get someone to do something at some point over the span of a couple weeks than it is to get someone to do something on a specific day. Second, if they do forget or fail to early vote, then they still have a chance to vote on election day. If they miss out on election day due to something coming up last minute, they can't vote at all. Third, if someone votes early, then they don't need to spend anymore time or money trying to get them to vote. Fourth, in a lot of places it's easier to vote early or by mail than it is to vote on election day (less lines, etc)
