Better than a spinal injury I suppose.

Holy shit that video is terrifying.

Lol I didn't say this was in the Netherlands. Lots of Dutch schools teach in the Alps.

avsaase

Interesting. The two Dutch schools I've flown with both do the first flights from launch sites with 300-500 meter altitude over the landing. They start with ground handling for a few days of course, either on the flat landing field or a small slope,  but after that its straight to the regular launch.

Can't you just click ok on that warning and proceed as normal? It was like that when I set up WhatsApp on my Dumber Mini a week ago.

avsaase

Easy. Just don't use Xitter.

Ari in the air with his men's group? Lol

I want to keep the mount as low profile as possible so incorporating existing mounts is not gonna work. I think I'll design in a velcro strap that holds the camera in the mount.

I just did the first test print and the angle was way off.

Can you still reach the on/off button with your helmet on? For longer flights it would be nice to be able to record some clips instead of the whole flight but I think the placement of the button makes that difficult if the camera is right under the edge of your helmet.

Do you have some video of this setup? I'm curious what this camera produces for paragliding flights.

avsaase

Nice, I have the same helmet. I'm considering taking a 3D scan of the front of the helmet and designing and 3D printing a snag free mount that velcros to the helmet. The headband is much simpler though. Does that come with the camera?

avsaase

Does the camera not interfere with your sunglasses?

If you get a vario you can still turn it off so I don't see the harm in getting one and trying it out. Also, I wouldn't rely on the AGL value of your vario to judge the safe altitude above the ground. TmI think the spacial resolution of the terrain data is in the order of tens of meters so it's not very useful for this.

Looks stressful as fuck

I have the Dutch B2 mountain license which allows me to fly by myself from a launch to the local landing site. No XC. As I understand it, Austria recognizes the Dutch licenses without IPPI conversion so legally I should be good.

As I said my airtime is still pretty low (~20 hours which also includes shirt winch tow flights) and I definitely don't want to get myself into trouble in an unfamiliar location. I've flown in Bassano and Greifenburg earlier in my training and last week in Lijak, Slovenia where I got my license and also did a small XC flight there which was pretty bumpy at times. I haven't experienced very punchy spring thermals yet and I don't really know what to expect in this location.

I know the theory of föhn and valley winds but I don't have much practical experience so I hope someone else with local knowledge reads this and can help me out. Otherwise I'll start emailing some local pilots.

Depending on what kind of pack you use you can keep your risers connected when you use a compression bag just fine. But I agreed that connecting the risers doesn't take a lot of time anyway and for beginners it's good that practice this a lot.

There are a lot of comments like this from different accounts lately. Is someone running a positive feedback bot?

Something that I'd like to see is a setting that makes cargo prompt you to confirm any changes to the lock file and why. Currently it just seems to do whatever. You can pass --locked but that's not very ergonomic because you often do want to lock file to update. I just want a mode where I have to approve the changes.

Annoyingly this doesn't allow choosing which dependencies you want to vendor. It just vendors everything
