Even the greatest magical artifact can be defeated by a counter-artifact that is lesser, but specialized.

I imagine the Marauders Map gets around the magic of the cloak by not relying on vision at all.

Not quite sure how the eye does it. Maybe the eye is enchanted so that it sees nothing false so there is literally just a blank space where an invisible thing is.

Or maybe the eye can’t see shit and Moody is just that good. He is a paranoid nutcase of an Auror with decades of experience on the job and filled half the cells in Azkaban. I would be surprised if he doesn’t have a half dozen ways to detect someone invisible without using magic at all. The cloak doesn’t block sound, or moving air, or creaking floorboards. He is the kind of person who would run down the checklist every time he entered a room just in case.

Can’t recall many of the specifics but I don’t think there was ever definitive proof that he could see under the cloak.

In basic training I knew an Asian guy whose name was spelled Ng.

He convinced all of us, drill sergeants included, to call him N*gga. I knew that was probably wrong but I couldn’t look it up to disprove it.

Funny guy, he ordered, or someone mailed him, leg wax so we spent what little free time we had one evening ripping all the hair off his leg. Don’t think he made it past basic though, but I could be misremembering.

Shut the fuck up with that conspiracy bullshit.

It is an outdated form of writing technology that we have surpassed. The political party that supports keeping it in schools and the political party that is currently taking a shit on our founding documents are the same people.

None of this is happening because people can’t read the documents that are kept locked up in the national archives.

Might be going to hell, but my first thought was Shallow Hall starring Jack Black.

Though because of some magic hypnosis he is the only one incapable of seeing the monstrosity that is Gwyneth Paltrow in a fat suit.

There were clues that noir was a clone.

It has been years since I read it so the only one I remember was that sometimes Noir would have sex with Maeve when homelander didn’t want to and it was explicitly stated that Maeve couldn’t tell the difference. There were a few other hints that they were similar like that.

Fuck off AI slop post.

Agreed but I know it is unpopular. I feel most qualified to weigh in because I live in a place that gets 110 in the summer and negative teens in the winter.

I can roll my windows down in the winter and feel great.

I can sleep with the windows open.

I feel way more energized walking around in the cold.

Just better personal temperature management in general.

I hate daylight savings time, for an entirely different rant*, but even without that I can’t stand the sun not setting until 2100 or 2200. I constantly forget to do something because I think I have plenty of time because the sun is still out, only to realize it’s 2030 and everything’s closed.

Camping is actually nice and relaxing, I can build and enjoy a fire.

Cold plunges are better since the lake hasn’t warmed up.

I’m not sweaty all the time.

I love snow.

It is much better snuggling weather. My partner always pushes me away at night cause we’re both getting hot and sticky and I don’t blame them.

*What moron thought that changing the clocks would have any practical effect on the amount of sunlight we get. Don’t answer that because I know the answers range from one dude that likes collecting bugs to saving energy for the German war machine.

Suicides and heart attacks go up the day the clocks change, and why the hell does it change on a Monday morning? Some dumbass who never had a job made that decision I guarantee it.

Also the energy savings nowadays are probably not even happening anymore because of huge technological shifts. Even the people who argue that it still does say that it is only about a 1% difference. For that we risk death, and mess up our clocks and time zones and fuck with international business scheduling because not every country can agree on when to switch the clocks.

Just keep the clocks the same and start work earlier if you really want to. Time is an illusion. We made the clocks up. It doesn’t matter.

This is kind of a separate issue, but I think we should have only one time worldwide. People are attached to the sun rising sometime between 0500 and 0800 AM and won’t accept a clock where are the sunsets at 1100.

Also switch to the 24 hour clock people a.m. and p.m. is outdated. Rant over.*

I also like hot chocolate, so winter is better.

Why is it so hard to have a satisfying and relevant future story?

It doesn’t need to be big and world changing. Desmond stopped the sun from exploding so let’s focus more on what the on the ground assassins are doing day to day.

When’s the last time we got a modern day Templar villain? The video game studio CEO? The one that was killed in a completely different game series.

I am tired of the modern day being limited to voices in your ear, or being told entirely through emails you have to go out of your way to find. I understand that the limitation of the format means it is hard to really connect the time periods without there being some big apocalyptic piece of precursor tech about to go off but there’s ways around it.

One Templar has a plan to do something evil using a piece of Eden that he already has. Assassins go explore the memories of someone who came in contact with that PoE before. They find out a different PoE is the best way to counter it. They track down that PoE through time using a few different people’s memories. Main baddie tries to stop them a few times per game.

A midranking Templar is from a long line of templars. They have had a feud with another long line of Assassins. You use the animus to find the source of this Templar families power, either a PoE or maybe something that can be used as blackmail or to ruin his reputation.

Or make the assassins proactive rather than reactive, what are they actually doing in the modern day to meaningfully improve people’s lives? Some small region of the world has remained in poverty for centuries due to frequent natural disasters. Assassins think it is because there is a PoE in the area but to find out where it is and how to fix it they need to check the past. The Templars like the modern day status quo because it makes the locals easier to exploit so they’re trying to stop them. At the end, the Templars grip is broken, the region is on the road to recovery, and for the first time in the series the modern Assassins have actually achieved something.

I wouldn’t even mind if they just reused the Desmond plot of we’re sticking you in the Animus so you can learn skills over a long weekend because we need an expert yesterday. With this framing the past story doesn’t even need to have a huge connection to the modern day. Doesn’t even need to be fighting and climbing skills they’re learning. Maybe they relive the life of an Assassin who was a governor or diplomat or spy. While yes they did jump around on rooftops and kill people, they also had great administrative skills, negotiated treaties and prevented wars from even starting through a deft application of statecraft, or were a master of disguises, manipulation, and subterfuge.

The important thing is that we see both modern day villain and hero doing things. Characterize them. Make us love and hate them both for different reasons. The protagonist needs to make choices and not feel like a prop that other characters shove in the Animus to solve all their problems. They don’t even need to be playable, I would be satisfied with watching that part of the story play out exclusively through cutscenes.

Each of these ideas can support a story that can be over and done with in one game or stretched out over two or three. I’d prefer they limit it to a single game so we can finally get even a small amount of closure in the modern day.

In trying to keep us invested by drip feeding us modern day and making it vague and never reaching a conclusion, they have ensured that, at least for me personally, I have no investment or interest in what is happening there at all.

Or just ditch the modern day altogether. The narrative is well established enough that we don’t need the framing device that is forced to contrive a reason for the bones of a Viking to be found in North America, or go out of their way to explain how Kassandra and Alexios blood got mixed together so that’s why you can pick your character.

Yeah pretty much, except I wasn’t really expecting anyone to take it as a compliment or an insult.

Ive been subscribed here for over a decade. Since before I left Christianity. It has always been my understanding that this is a shit posting meme sub because I have seen some pretty wild theological takes here.

I was completely blindsided by the response to me saying that catholicism looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, so I call it a duck.

Did I accidentally stumble into the one theological talking point that is off limits here?

awoloozlefinch

Yeah, no shit.

Still doesn’t make me prejudiced.

awoloozlefinch

It’s a reference to the civilization videogame. There’s military, economic, and culture/religious victories. You can get a religious victory by spreading your religion worldwide and being the largest religious population.

The Roman’s may have lost the military and economic fight, but their state religion, that’s still headquartered in Rome, is the dominant world religion.

Though it only works now if you include Protestants because Sunni Islam has you beat. No idea if that’s a recent development or if I got my facts wrong when I first checked to see if the joke worked a decade ago.

awoloozlefinch

This was a lighthearted comment on a meme sub. I have no idea why everyone’s being so nasty.

Not taking the bait.

awoloozlefinch

I consider myself pretty well read on apologetics and doctrine, though not specifically catholic teachings and I have no idea what your first sentence means. Could you elaborate?

awoloozlefinch

What a wild thing to say.

I suppose if you have the Christian mindset that polytheism is bad that’s how you could see it as “prejudiced”. I was always jealous of Catholics when I was raised Baptist because your religion seemed cooler.

awoloozlefinch

I’ve been told I’m incorrect before but never been given a good reason why so maybe you can clarify.

The group of islands is called The British Isles. So Irish, welsh, Scottish, and English accents are all British accents right? That’s always been my inference.

Met an “Irish”-American from NYC in Utah who told me that I was wrong but didn’t say why. He’s never been out of the country and the only bit of Irish culture he performed was hating the English so he got mad when I said this.

Edit: don’t know what all these down votes were for, I was just trying to get clarification on something that has never quite made sense to me.

I knew the term “British” has both geographical and political definitions, but I learned there’s also an entirely separate linguistic meaning but I’m not sure that’s what people mean when they say British accent, and of course, the cultural meaning.

Because of all these separate but overlapping frameworks, there seems to be a lot of disagreement in the replies over where the lines should be drawn.

Some people have said British people can have non-British accents and vice versa.

Don’t know why you expected me to get this right on my own when so many people can’t agree.

Then there’s the people who tried to explain what the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is and includes which yeah I get it. I didn’t say Ireland was part of the UK and that made it British. I said it was part of the British Isles and asked why that didn’t make it British.

I understand and I’m aware of the long history of oppression and colonization perpetrated upon the Irish by the English and how that would lead to a rejection of anything associated with the English identity.

But rejecting the term British, which is a name for the islands you’re on that wasn’t even coined by the English, but the ancient Greeks(thank you to whoever posted that fact I had no idea the ancient Greeks knew of anything going on in that part of Europe), seems like France, deciding that they’re tired of Germany invading them so they no longer consider themselves European. Which I know is also a fuzzy term that has different meanings, geographically, politically, and culturally.

I tried to do this when YouTube first rolled out shorts because I hated Instagram and TikTok and did not want YouTube to turn into that. I avoided shorts for so long but eventually I couldn’t resist clicking on them and suddenly I was no longer listening to hour long video essays on the battle of Waterloo in the background while being productive but scrolling Warhammer lore I’ve already heard a million times for hours.

Thank you so much for this. I feel like I might have just reclaimed a portion of my life.

Fight Club was written by a gay man and despite being one of the most homoerotic works out there it is a favorite movie among people who would assault gay men for not being manly enough.

awoloozlefinch

I remember watching that movie in my film class and we came to the conclusion that Bane was just a communist which obviously made him a villain.

As an adult, holding the rich and powerful accountable for the income inequality and living standards of the poor of the city of Gotham is pretty based.

Death or exile.

awoloozlefinch

And firing all the people investigating him for crimes.

awoloozlefinch

Don’t know if it was said in the show but in the comic they gave him 500 years. This post was also kind of a reward for his service, go take a break for a few centuries and do what you want here just make sure it’s part of the empire when you’re done.

Motherfucker you’re one of the top 5 strongest beings in the universe. You can do whatever the fuck you want and there is very little anyone could do about. If he really wanted to stop he could.

Heil Honey I’m home! is a show that was never picked up but here’s the full episode here.

Pretty much what she did in the comics. She went but she stayed in her room with her private man sluts.
