Seconding the taprooms around Piccadilly - some open every day and afternoons. Some more restricted hours. All good for a chill pint, especially at quiter times. Track. Cloudwater, Steelfish, Sureshot, Balance. Pigeon is also in the vicinity. Maybe check hours and see if they work for when you are about.

ayanamidreamsequence

Indeed. Been a while, good to see you around.

Magazin is an Eastern European supermarket next to Taste of Portugal

Check the ISBN numbers for those editions (eg like on this site) then try eBay - most sellers will list the ISBN numbers as part of the details and that should help confirm it is the one you want. If in doubt could try contacting the seller.

Just to note this is a dead sub - better off posting at r/DonDeLillo which is active.

"Without turning, the pharmacist answered that he liked books like The Metamorphosis, Bartleby, A Simple Heart, A Christmas Carol. And then he said that he was reading Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's. Leaving aside the fact that A Simple Heart and A Christmas Carol were stories, not books, there was something revelatory about the taste of this bookish young pharmacist, who ... clearly and inarguably preferred minor works to major ones. He chose The Metamorphosis over The Trial, he chose Bartleby over Moby Dick, he chose A Simple Heart over Bouvard and Pecouchet, and A Christmas Carol over A Tale of Two Cities or The Pickwick Papers. What a sad paradox, thought Amalfitano. Now even bookish pharmacists are afraid to take on the great, imperfect, torrential works, books that blaze a path into the unknown. They choose the perfect exercises of the great masters. Or what amounts to the same thing: they want to watch the great masters spar, but they have no interest in real combat, when the great masters struggle against that something, that something that terrifies us all, that something that cows us and spurs us on, amid blood and mortal wounds and stench"

Your question brought that quote to mind.

I can't work out of you are really asking if great books are being written or something deeper about the intention of authors to explicitly reach towards greatness and put themselves out there in doing so.

Some interesting responses on here either way re recommendations, the state of publishing and the absurdity, foolishness, definition or validity within the question - which I guess makes it a fun one to debate.

No worries. They do have a honeycomb one, certainly have had it a few times there.

Another one non-Chinese is Callos (Spanish tripe stew). El Rincon de Rafa on Deansgate do it I think. And Akbars on Liverpool road do Maghaz (Indian sheep's brain curry). Haven't had theirs but had one in Bradford that was excellent.

ayanamidreamsequence

Also Only Yu does some tripe dim sum.

Jinji on Portland St does a pigs stomach and chicken with white pepper soup that is also good, as well as classics like stir fried intestines.

BBQ Chinese restaurant on Faulkner St does tripe dishes, including a pretty good pork intestine, tofu and fish stew. Also do things like beef heart, chickens gizzards etc.

BBC have their standard short highlights (6-10 min) of each match as they do for the premier league (separately from MOTD) but these are via iPlayer not broadcast. Can see both of yesterday's matches are there. So maybe someone can collate those. No commentary mind you, but probably better of listening to something like Guardian football podcast for that as the conversation is more enjoyable.

Assuming this is only a temporary tribute, taken yesterday when wandering past.

Nothing in particular, would suggest maybe one of the shorter options if you run something as is less of a commitment, may get more people in and help you gauge interest in possibly tackling something bigger after that. Probably could be done over 2-3 weeks if around 100 - 150 pages.

I mod on the Lat Am Lit, DeLillo and Pynchon subs so can also help crosspost to get word out.

Will keep an eye out. Just DM me if you wanted to check on anything else before you post.

Re a book read, you might want to float that as a separate post rather than as an afterthought here if you wanted any traction.

We did a whole series of reads on the sub during lockdown, some more successful than others. You can find them via the links in the subs menu if you want to see what we covered then and how we did it. Sub seems a bit busier now so you may have more luck.

If you do a post I can pin it to the top so it remains visible. Can also support generally - am the only mod here.

Steelfish had pinks on a while back (made with beetroot) and often have a jar of regular pickled eggs on. But they do them themselves and they are only on here and there, not regularly.

ayanamidreamsequence

Steelfish sell them and apparently have a few on hand in the back if you ask

ayanamidreamsequence

As others note is partly the construction. So in a way the job is to push through.

Having said that it's a book so no need to persist if not into it.

Even better it's a book of parts as you already know. So just jump ahead and start the next and see if that hooks you. Keep a bookmark where you were as you may want to return.

Or not. In which case you could always donate or burn it.

A bit more expensive than others mentioned but when I went a while ago really rated 雄柒火锅 XiongQi Hot Pot in Chinatown. And they have some seriouslt spicy base options if that's your thing. Maybe good with a bigger group as well get more value out of it that way.
