I think that people should support Turek but I also don't think it's the equivalent to the theoretical Christchurch example because El-Sayed was pretty explicit that it was wrong.

Violence is a cycle. Ayman Ghazali lost family, including two children, in an airstrike in Lebanon last week. They were innocent people. And then, in an evil act of displaced rage, he tried to take it out on innocent children, who had nothing to do with the loss of the innocent children he lost, except that they share a faith.

Temple Israel is not the state of Israel. Jewish people are not the state of Israel, and the people of Israel are not the political actors who make direct choices for the State of Israel.

I’m not going to hold Israel to a double standard and support its ethnic cleansing actions when I don’t support any other country or group doing similar things.

“Not one house at a time. The entirely of those villages — their demolition has been completed. We’re talking about 15,000 to 20,000 homes. All 24 of these villages have been destroyed and Bint Jbeil, which is beyond this area (of southern Lebanon) has been destroyed,” Katz says.

This doesn’t stop being ethnic cleansing just because you strongly support it

Wow, amazing how Israel was not targeting them for being Shia and instead just happened to find twenty thousand military targets.

on the more left leaning side of the party.

He was chosen in 2008 as the VP in large part because he was perceived as a moderate within the party. He wasn’t a blue dog and I guess he was probably technically left of center but for most of his career he wasn’t viewed as, and didn’t try to be viewed as, someone who particularly leaned to the left.

Ok but the German state then isn’t just for ethnic Germans, people who aren’t ethnically German can be just as legitimate German citizens. If you agree with that then I don’t see how this is any different than the other user saying that Israel should be thought of as being for Israelis.

It seemed pretty clear to me that the other user was not arguing that the French or German ethnic groups don't exist, but rather that they're not that relevant to who is or isn't a member of France or Germany.

bashar_al_assad

If someone speaks Somali and abstains from alcohol, but is a German citizen (or permanent resident, not sure of all the different EU legal specifics), they’re German.

bashar_al_assad

Lots of people would argue that black man can never be german.

Do they speak german and drink beer, or speak somali and abstain from alcohol?

This is just straightforwardly racist and it’s more than a little odd to use it as an argument that the other user is wrong about Germany (and in their original comment, Israel).

bashar_al_assad

Well there are a lot of people of different races and ethnic groups who are French citizens and the other user would presumably say none of them are any less French than any other citizen (which I would agree with).

Most people wouldn’t really say that Kylian Mbappe and Macron are part of the same ethnic group but they’re both French.

I gotta be the only dumbass in the entire country who picked up Nick Folk to be my kicker this week but why the hell did the Falcons not kick there

bashar_al_assad

Lmao now we’ve got people on this sub crying about “anchor babies” too, incredible

bashar_al_assad

Democrats don’t need to win the “deport citizens with opinions I don’t like” crowd to win, sorry bud.

bashar_al_assad

You look at Hasan the same way you look at yourself?

bashar_al_assad

Yes, there’s always an excuse for why we should, for example, ignore Mamdani explicitly condemning Hamas and mourning the October 7th victims and instead conclude that he’s lying and secretly loves terrorism. But it doesn’t really change my mind that you agree with it!

bashar_al_assad

I still think that the comment was not actually a call for violence against a US Senator, and if Rick Scott's feelings got hurt then that's unfortunate but I can live with that.

bashar_al_assad

Sounds similar to “when they go low we go high”, which of course worked flawlessly.

bashar_al_assad

I just don't find arguments that people on the left should be more polite to Republicans to be particularly compelling, sorry!

bashar_al_assad

The last one

Popular left-leaning political streamer Hasan Piker was kicked off of Twitch on Monday, days after saying Republicans would “kill” Florida Sen. Rick Scott if they cared about government waste.

“If you cared about Medicare fraud, or Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott, okay?” Piker said on Feb. 28.

seems less like an actual call for violence (he didn’t actually use the word “should”!) and more a dramatic way of pointing out that Republicans cut hundreds of billions of dollars in medicaid funding, targeted at blue states, ostensibly because of a deep commitment to combating medicaid fraud, but have elevated a guy who's company paid $1.7 billion in fines for defrauding Medicaid and Medicare (at the time the largest such fraud in history) to leadership positions within the Republican Senate caucus.

bashar_al_assad

"This candidate loves terrorism" is something people say about every Muslim candidate, we're not really breaking any new ground here.

bashar_al_assad

It's a whataboutism

The idea that it’s unfair to criticize a literal presidential advisor for their bigotry is nonsense. And it seems quite relevant that many of the people who are supposedly motivated only by standing up to Hasan Piker’s bigotry are curiously unwilling to do the same when it comes from a Republican!

bashar_al_assad

I think she should want to defeat a candidate who hires groypers who want to send Jews to North Korea, but I guess antisemitism is fine for her when it's coming from a Republican.

bashar_al_assad

The average splinter sub comment is basically "I strongly condemn Hasan Piker for his antisemitism and AES for his relationship with him, that's why I encourage everyone to vote for the guy who employs a staffer who wants to send all Jews to North Korea."

bashar_al_assad

It's not my fault that people compared the DSA to MAGA and then you started crying about how unfair I was being when I said MAGA was worse. I'm happy to be on my side and not yours, and I look forward to your excuses when the next story drops about something awful this administration is doing.

bashar_al_assad

I'm not a DSA member and I agree with some but not all of what's in the platform. I just don't think they're worse than or equivalent to the Republicans - the Republicans are really really really bad.

bashar_al_assad

I think that between the two choices, it would be better if we had a federal jobs guarantee and Renee Good and Alex Pretti were alive, rather than the other way around. Clearly you disagree.
