The facilities are much improved since the mid 2010s. Non-basketball student athletes are still expected to attend class and complete assignments but do and can get waivers for games. My major specific classes only were held in the mornings, so there were years where I had to leave practice early to attend class. As for the “D1 experience”, I can’t infer what your expectations are but there is definitely strong team bonding and commitment to the sport by those on the team.
