I agree with you, it is so sad. It feels so easy to listen to other people’s self-experiences and accept they are true? And it seems so simple to understand that, yes indeed, some people are attracted to people of the same gender, since they themselves are attracted to people of the same gender? What I don’t get is the leap from that to pretending like nobody has gay desire therefore everyone who says they do is a liar. That seems like a reaction formation - and it’s so sad these folks could live happy, fulfilled lives with partners they love and are attracted to but instead choose to make themselves and others miserable

Right? Like all these folks out here thinking being gay is a choice… because they are choosing not to be gay themselves? Aka: “I am resisting my own gay desires so everyone else can too” = “I have gay desires” and “I have no clue that other people don’t.”

Honest question: do the folks who think that way not realize that protecting the rights of queer folks to live according to their values is also protecting their own right to live according to their values? Like nobody is forcing anybody to be gay or to be straight? If what they are concerned about is individual liberties, why would they want more restrictions on individual liberties? I’m not trying to be rude or snarky, I’m genuinely trying to understand a viewpoint I don’t get.

I do not mean this in an arguing way at all - I am 100% genuinely curious. And I also understand this might not even be your viewpoint, since you are just describing it - either way maybe you have insight into this question?

What is so bad about these things? Like what are people scared of?
