I have of a fleet of 100 Dashcams. It’s become more difficult but if can still make sense if you’re in a good region and have drivers that are on the road a lot!
I have a bunch of videos on my YouTube channel for fleets.

I actually made that video! I am looking at the current distribution to contributors from the pool now looking forward in my assessment. There are many regions right now where the weekly rewards are hard to keep people motivated because it is not a completely passive process and I worry that the map progress could be hindered.
Additionally, it does seem that some of the changes they’ve made were to prevent people from actively mapping but the market has also had some pullbacks recently and HONEY is down 75% from its ATH and those changes are now 3-4X of an impact.
There will 2 billion tokens unlocked to founders by year’s end and 2 billion tokens unlocked by the end of 2025 for employees so some additional rewards for contributors will have little to no impact by comparison and keep the map moving in the right direction by keeping people engaged.
Hopefully that helps to add some context to my thinking!
bjm7bb
Haha I doubt it only because he HATES the idea of people selling Dashcams on EBay.

I got the exact same one and waited just over two years but picked it up a few weeks ago! Absolutely love it.

Since you’re mining with DIMO that is treated as income. The amount of income is based on the price of DIMO when you earned it. When you sell it there will either be a short-term capital loss/gain or long-term capital loss/gain depending on whether you held it for longer than a year and whether the price increased or decreased from the time of earning it.
Depending on how many vehicles you have connected it could be worth setting up an LLC. I have one for DIMO, Hivemapper and Helium. I’m putting together some videos on how I manage all of this and will post in here once I’m finished.
That said, I highly suggest you get a good accountant. It’s well worth the money!

I’m a couple months out from receiving mine and am getting a little nervous given all of the service issues and reports of delayed/bad customer service.

Nebra is a scamming company. Their CEO is a criminal. This isn’t his first company that he’s used to scam people. He should be in prison or worse. Karma will find him and it will be his demise.

The network exploded over a period of 18 months and projects are starting to launch on it. The hardware for these projects take time to manufacture so it is a bit of a chicken before the egg situation. If/when usage does come to fruition things can really take off. Without usage though the network will fail. The move to solana will allow nova labs to focus on driving usage/partnerships instead of fixing a blockchain that is really only useful for the reward system.
bjm7bb
There is not unlimited amount of HNT lol yes as data credits are used HNT is burned and replaced by minting. Once data usage becomes large enough the supply will actually decrease as there is a cap to how much can be minted to replace the burned HNT.

I don’t see them changing anything as of now. They did make a note that the move is L1 agnostic so if they ever did need to pivot they could. Solana has received a ton of hate but I don’t personally feel that all of it is warranted.
Solana is the third most decentralized L1 based on the number of nodes that are operating despite what many people say. The network has gone down a few times but most people are under the impression that it goes down every other day. My understanding is that they are upgrading the network by essentially building a digital twin of it from the ground up and this would make it nearly impossible to ever experience downtime again. With the TPS being so high and cost of transactions being so cheap I can see why they went this route. The Saga phone is also launching with Solana and that should drive adoption to the Helium mobile side of things.
I believe FTX had roughly 16% of the supply. It remains to be seen whether that will be locked up for multiple years in a legal battle like the Mt Gox situation (this could actually be bullish for price action) or if it hits the open market as FTX was “hacked” the other day and drained of its remaining assets. Regardless I believe there was a vesting period with the tokens unlocking over a multi year period.
As far as Helium goes there were just over 54 million packets sent by sensors over the network in a 24 hour period. This network basically popped up nowhere in 2021 and manufacturers/use cases need to catch up. Amir sent out an update that there isn’t exposure to FTX and that there is about 7 years worth of runway with the cash that nova labs has on hand. They will be working to get IOT partnerships, have a successful helium mobile launch and drive down the cost of mobile deployments. I don’t feel this project is dead by any means but with us being in a bear market deployments have and will be slow for awhile.
SBF really fucked up and the whole industry is going to suffer for a bit but ultimately we needed this to happen to shake out the bad actors, drive more regulation that is needed for mass adoption, and get rid of the bullshit projects in the space that truly are scammy with no real use case. I’m personally still stacking HNT and looking to DCA into projects that I have conviction for in what could be a golden opportunity.

Recommend intermittent fasting and paying attention to your calorie intake. There are some keto blood test devices you can get that will allow you to test your resilience with certain foods and see how far into ketosis you are. In my experience once I stuck to it for an extended period it was far easier to get back into ketosis if I ever fell out of it. I lost about 30 lbs, slept great, had enhanced sense of smell, and overall my brain felt like it was more alert and just felt amazing all the time. It’s a really tough diet to stick to though and cycle on and off now. The weight has stayed off though with regular exercise!

If you know how to place them with the right equipment in the right locations you can still breakeven in under 6 months. That’s at current HNT prices. I’m sorry you aren’t willing to do adequate research and see the big picture.

I am continuing to deploy units. Have 70 running and plan to finish at around 100 units. All outdoor and producing well although the past couple weeks have been rough. Once POC activity is offchain I expect major improvements. I’m also going in big on hivemapper.
bjm7bb
My earnings are down roughly 50% over the past 30 days. Block times are running long and POC activity is way down. Amir has spoken about their plans to move POC activity off chain which should help with beaconing and allow for more witnesses per beacon. People that have invested and strategically placed their hotspots should benefit when this happens.
bjm7bb
That’s a good question. I only have three RAKs and my first one just died and haven’t had a chance to fix it yet.
bjm7bb
I would try a different Ethernet cable. How long have you been seeing this? I assume you’re connecting to Bluetooth and seeing this on the diagnostic test?
bjm7bb
I started off by approaching friends and family and then branched out. I pay out a referral fee which has been helpful in finding hosts. That said I’ve gotten pretty picky about placements as the altitude makes a huge impact. I ask that they send an address over for me to evaluate prior to introducing me to someone to make sure it is a good spot. I recommend looking at topography maps when assessing.
I use hotspotty to manage everything. You can create profiles for each install and each host. It allows you to associate specific payout percentages and create commission reports and subsequently a QR code that you can scan to make all payouts at one time.
I also use hotspotty to check my 24 hour earnings and you can sort by highest to lowest or vice versa. It makes it pretty easy to determine if a hotspot has been offline and then go to the explorer to further evaluate the recently hourly earnings to confirm. I have smart plugs on all of my setups and can power cycle from my phone although it’s not great to do that too often as it can impact the SD card so I do it on an as needed basis.
I did create an LLC and have 1099 agreements that I have each host sign through docusign. This allows me to deduct all of my business expenses and keep everything above water.
I’m trying out minertax.com to track earnings and payouts. In the US you owe taxes based on the value of HNT as you earn it and then have to pay taxes on the gain/loss from the time you earn it until you pay out as that’s technically a “sale” and therefore a realized loss/gain. Minertax.com will calculate based on FIFO or LIFO which is nice.
bjm7bb
I’ve been proactively doing it for my sensecaps as I’ve had to replace them on two now. It seems they’ve been using higher quality cards in the more recent batches.
I just had a Rak die on me so I assume it’s an SD card issue. I havent have a chance to swap yet but they just released guidance that they recommend switching the card.
bjm7bb
Yes I have smart plugs on all of my installations and they are all PoE. 45 installed so far but expanding to around 110 by summer. If you place them in optimal locations with the correct equipment it can be very lucrative but there is an art to it that took a lot of trial and error for me to figure out.
Would recommend removing the SD card and copying the JSON file for each, using a label maker to mark the name on each one, and make sure you add them to the sensecap dashboard prior to install.
Altitude is key and using the correct antenna for the terrain where you’re installing.
I have RAKs, Nebras, bobcats and Sensecaps and the Sensecaps are def my favorite!
Best of luck!

Depends on your location. If you’re willing to do the research and get proper equipment for an outdoor setup you can breakeven in under a month and then have a residual flow of HNT. If you don’t want to do the research then sell and buy HNT. I currently have 45 set up and am adding another 50 and they range from .2 to 1 per day but it took me a lot of research and trial and error to figure out how to optimize my setups.
The main thing is getting involved somehow because I strongly believe HNT is hitting triple digits this year.
