As someone who avoids the souls or rogue genres.. I can't get enough of this game. (self.TheFirstBerserker) [Discussion]

Why was Veilguard released?

bl4st_b34t

Each to there own. It being a Dragon Age title aside, I thought it was woeful.

Combat? Button mash your way to victory. Story? £1 amazon young-adult fiction slop. Characters? Every interaction was like therapy. Audio? Apparently Hans Zimmer? Did they get the right guy? It was the same 4 songs on loop.

Barely a 2/10.

Greedfall was a better game.

bl4st_b34t

I swear some gamers would be happy to pay £69.99 to watch paint dry if it was locked at 60fps.

bl4st_b34t

It is available in the UK. Purchased and downloading now.

DualShockers - 8/10 Game Rant - 8/10

bl4st_b34t

Genuine question, what about the game do you think is good?

bl4st_b34t

Dragon Age as an IP is done for a while, and quite possibly, for good.

I don't say that to be dramatic, but Dragon Age: Veilguard is quite clearly one failure too far for EA; as they have jettisoned the whole DA team.

You don't do that in business unless you want to get rid of something.

bl4st_b34t

Always found FromSoft games boring and monotonous.

Nioh 2 is still superior to Elden Ring in my opinion (faster combat, more fair, no cheap gimmicks).

TFB:K is on the same tracks as Nioh 2 so if you dig that, you'll dig this.

If Mass Effect is not a major commercial success, BioWare will be shuttered entirely.

bl4st_b34t

Veilguard was a commercial failure. I would be surprised if we got another entry.

bl4st_b34t

“Leaving”. More like jumped before pushed. No surprise though. The game was an embarassment.

bl4st_b34t

No.

bl4st_b34t

6/10.. very generous.

bl4st_b34t

If you have conversations in real life like the characters do in DA:VG then I feel sorry for whoever you are talking to.

Immediate examples..

Example 1 Act 1, meeting harding Varric - "We need to get to place [x] to find person [y], but it is swarming with Venatori. Harding, can you get us there?"

Harding - "Yes, person [y] must be in place [x] because it is swarming with Venatori. Let's go."

...

Why not just say something like.. "Yes, we can use the backstreets. Let's go."?

Example 2

Act 1, following the events with Solas, the team just cracks on. No concern, no anger, no fear. There's no character building.. just.. "You've got this" and we all move on as normal.

You're fighting two nigh immortal lovecraftian nightmares.. no one is concerned by this?

bl4st_b34t

It really doesn't matter because you'll just be pressing the same 3 buttons/keys anyway.

bl4st_b34t

By launch standards this is embarrassing.

It's like celebrating a personal best when the rest of the field are smashing you.

1/5

Against my better judgement I rolled the dice and picked this up.

Now I am not someone who regrets a purchase. I know what I like and I go in knowing how much of what I am buying fits that schema.

Having played 8hrs, I think I've seen enough.

The review outlets giving this 8/10+ need investigating for market fixing.

Influencing consumers to spend £70 on this based on clear lies is criminal.

This was clearly a mobile game BioWare have replatformed for consoles and PC.

The graphics, for a modern game and the resources BioWare have, are comical. It sucks any sense of impact from any scene when it looks like it has been designed like a straight to VOD Disney sequel.

Combat.. exists. That's all I can say. Square, Square, Square, Block, L2+Square. Repeat.

Characters are all.. lame. There's no personality. There's no baggage. There's no pain of experience. No prejudice. Everyone just.. exists.

Writing.. I am convinced someone has just used ChatGPT.

World building.. there's a world.. but it doesn't feel lived in.

In short, buy Inquisition with the DLCs. You'll have a much better time, for a much better price.

bl4st_b34t

I was referring to The Witcher.

bl4st_b34t

Seriously, if they removed the nudity, I would understand that they were targeting a non-mature demographic; but considering that this is an M/18 title.. who wants to play THIS as an adult?

bl4st_b34t

Looks like it is just CD Projekt Red left who knows how to develop good, mature themed, complex action-rpgs.

bl4st_b34t

Mr. Studd.

bl4st_b34t

Don't play FF16.

You can leave your statement there.

bl4st_b34t

"Here's the Last of Us Part 2 running on PS5 Pro. It has huge amounts of detail and targets a super smooth 60 frames per second."

THEY CAN'T EVEN OPTIMISE THE OPENING DEMO GAME FOR THE CONSOLE THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL AS PERFORMANCE ENHANCED.

Presentation boils down to..

"You like trees? You like trees in the distance? £700 please."
