Wicked jam. Love it.

bleeptwig

💯agree and just to follow up with how awesome I think this combo is as someone else posted a nice jam - I made this EP the very first time I used the DFAM and the Subharmonicon, from an hour or so livestream, it was so enjoyable to pick-up and use and layered with the Panharmonium and a Lubadh and a Versio or two. It just worked so well - the only challenging part IMHO was getting the Subharmonicon chords and overlapping sequences working. (Less is more as it turns out).

There’s a few codes left if any modular peeps wanted to snag one:

They play great with modular gear and for me they’re the best of both worlds as they make your modular better with amazing oscillators and filters, and analogue sequencers, and they are made better by modular with more processing and augmentation.

And they work great by themselves and are instantly fun.

For me, this is a plan with no drawbacks.

Beautiful - thanks for sharing the update

bleeptwig

This ends just when it's getting good.

bleeptwig

Just like all the platforms they're all nothing without the creators ... but they want the moon on a stick for close to nothing in return, except hosting. You want reach? Do it yourself. Replace files? That'll cost ya.

Spotify wants me to constantly create content for them for "my fans" ... who I actually get zero access to, or any control over ... for ... let's see ... zero dollars ever.

bleeptwig

This is such an amazing setup - I hope wherever it ends up it is played with love and care, as it looks like a well thought out and hugely fun case.

bleeptwig

The FC games still do have wicked music- some big acts but lots of other stuff.

bleeptwig

You’ll also have that high-effort write-up deleted unless you “engage in the community” too.

bleeptwig

Instagram is such a cesspool. Even if people follow you, they won’t see most of your stuff as everyone is just fed ads and bait.

bleeptwig

An “it’s impossible” attitude will definitely get you nowhere.

Change your mindset from
“promote my stuff” to “find people who might care about my stuff, and give them a compelling reason to do so.”

I’m two years in, and I have made loads of new friends, collaborators, and connections, released albums and EPs, collabs, remixes, had my sound art pieces played in Vienna and in November at Oxford University, doing my first proper gig in Dec, >50k plays, @ $1k in sales (pathetically unviable as a career of course, but it’s my passion not my job!).

None of this would happen without making the best music I believe I can - and caring about, and engaging with, other amazing humans and communities (IRL and online).

In some ways it’s harder - sure there’s a lot of people doing this and now there’s AI making it, but it’s also never been easier to find and engage with communities, and people.

FRGMTS only really does beat-repeats and tape slowing, and some effects and filter - it’s not really a glitcher like DB.

I have DB and it’s alright, but feels gimmicky and unpolished to me. Like other than the repeats and glitching it just has these kinda random effects that vary widely in quality, with relatively little actual control.

It could be awesome.

It is cool to whack regular modular drums through it and record a bunch of the glitching and then use the best bits alongside the unprocessed drums.

Like chucking a DFAM through it, and sampling that output into a 1010 sampler or Sample Drum - that is awesome fun.

So for what it does - DB beats FRGMTS but FRGMTS is also smaller, and a Versio so that is a massive plus. DB should open source their firmware…

bleeptwig

Starlab does sound absolutely top quality, the filters, shimmer and glimmer are gorgeous too.

I use Desmodus more regularly as a sound manipulator - but it definitely doesn’t sound as good as “just” a reverb.

bleeptwig

I love my panharmonium - it is big and takes some getting used to, but it sounds great and I use it on almost everything I do - it’s staying put until someone makes a PaulXstretch module.

Expert Sleepers new Forever also looks like an awesome option for a similar kind of thing in a smaller package.

Also the Sonicsmith Convertor for mono

bleeptwig

Polyphony or multiple, varied and concurrent hits would be quite awesome.

bleeptwig

Small modules are a pain in the ass. The Atom clone is not very fun to use.

bleeptwig

Like any other community - You get out what you put in.

Those 100 empty plays are basically worthless anyways (I get 20-30% likes organically, and maybe 1% through Amplify, on roughly the same # plays per track in the first week or so.)

Give people a reason to give a shit.

Like almost every producer-oriented place - there’s too many tunes, tons of Ai slop, no-one is listening to anyone else … yet everyone expects to be listened to.

Listen to other people’s music, comment on the stuff you like, tell them when and why you love it, follow, repost etc.

It’ll take a little bit of effort and time but it feels great to do - We all love a bit of attention, you can find some awesome new artists, and you’ll find it comes back.

bleeptwig

It’s such a playable instrument, I got mine after finding my Multigrain to be not very fun to play live.

And the other menus are really not that complicated.

The MOD input for reverb and MIDI polyphony are massive bonuses.

bleeptwig

This. It’s 100% designed for this purpose. It’s simple, compact, sounds absolutely awesome.

Bass ☑️

bleeptwig

A Tanh is a lovely little addition.

bleeptwig

Also can highly recommend an Instruo Tanh or other saturator with the Pan as it adds so much character to its raw outputs.

bleeptwig

No, just this one. I wanted this very specific module because it does exactly the kind of thing I was after. He is a legend though yep!

bleeptwig

Holy crap you’re stream of consciousness machine! 😅

I use the Panharmonium on almost everything I do.

Mostly just to make related harmonic material from anything, but sometimes to play offset chords.

Easier to show than tell

Typical use - backing chords from a Moog Subharmonicon arp (live):

Rhythms (and glide):

https://on.soundcloud.com/27mQFiUa0B7SeIGv3a

Offset / progressions:

https://on.soundcloud.com/gTQ2JlOhrdQTuxnTN2

The second half of this last track is the Pan playing chords that are tuned to be offset to certain intervals from a piano chord playing from Multigrain and using it’s assignable pitch CV out to the V/oct CV in on the Pan to offset the resynthesized perfect fifth chord.

So I’m turning a knob on MG, and playing this progression.

Perfect for someone like me who doesn’t play any keys.

bleeptwig

looks fun

bleeptwig

Yeah that’s what I found - feeding audio into the CV input just modulates the internal oscilllator. Wondered if this was a V2 thing, or some other setting I was missing.

What a weird thing to make up.
