Run it in the cloud, not on your laptop. Cloudflare is good. Forget foundation models, use open weight models. Or just use something like stumpy.ai.
bluesnowmonkey
Well done.
bluesnowmonkey
I hate this stupid motherfucker.
bluesnowmonkey
I think they slathered it in oil actually.
bluesnowmonkey
No. This is the opposite of good. You should be getting them out of the fridge 30 mins early so they come to room temperature. Otherwise you get burgers that are burnt on the outside and raw on the inside.
bluesnowmonkey
Get a Miele, super quiet.
bluesnowmonkey
Quietly. Stuck with me. It wasn't X it was Y. It wasn't X it was Y... again.
Slop.

GLM 5.3 Flash is incredible for its price. I don't think a lot of people have really picked up on how many use cases it enables now. Yeah I still use Codex/Claude for software engineering because they're a little better and I have those subscriptions. But in any environment where I'm buying API tokens, it's GLM all the way. Personal agents, any kind of cloud platform where it needs agents internally. Right now there's no situation where I'd build something to use GPT or Claude API tokens.

Curious what that sounds like. Guessing the props are at fairly low RPM.

Well there is quantum locking. That's the thing where a magnet floats or even moves indefinitely over a superconductor at no ongoing energy cost. (Ever heard of maglev trains?) One might argue that satisfies the definition of antigravity. Of course it's limited at the moment, only works over exotic superconducting materials, but as far as I know there's no particular reason we couldn't have room temperature superconductors and magnets embedded in roads and boom, you've got Star Wars style speeders.
Another thing to think about: you're made of atoms with mostly empty space between them. Yet you stand on the ground and don't fall through it. A force is generated with no energy that exactly cancels out gravity, at a distance (though a tiny one). What's the definition of antigravity that doesn't meet?
bluesnowmonkey
It's risky though. Pick the wrong kind or just eat too much and suddenly I'm in a sugar crash.

Also "unsee".

Wonder if moving two of the motors outboard to blow over the ailerons would help make it resistant to asymmetric stalls.

In reality it's been *so hard* to get an LLM to do something reasonable. Researchers have put so many innovations and tuning and refinement into just enabling them to consistently talk to you and call tools and so forth. We have massive control over how they behave, just to make them work in the first place. There are lots of things they're trained not to do. People think we can't train them not to be evil hackers?
bluesnowmonkey
They can participate in video calls actually. I've been using them that way for months through a company called Recall.ai.
I'll add that most communication at companies I've worked at has been through Slack, and they can certainly participate there as well.

Demolition Man vibes.
bluesnowmonkey
I'd skip it and save up for a better plane and transmitter. What you have is going to be extremely sensitive to the weight of any extra doodads you put in there.

Is Trump admitting out loud that he and Putin are basically a team in some sense? Otherwise why would one expect Putin to inform the US president before invading NATO?
bluesnowmonkey
Yeah I lost an aircraft once to a low battery despite having one of those beepers. I just happened to be flying it on a windy day a bit too far away to hear the sound for the minute or so it was probably going off. Thereafter I vowed to never fly again without telemetry.

Man, what poor timing that we just expended most of our missile inventory against Iran. What a cruel, totally-unforeseeable twist of fate! Just such a fully random coincidence. Who could have predicted that we would need those missiles?
bluesnowmonkey
I did something very similar, same glider, same motor placement, also no control surfaces. The hope was that it would be really stable in pitch and I could throttle up to go higher and throttle down to go lower. In practice it didn't quite work and would have needed at least an elevator to be flyable.

Green energy creates jobs? Why yes, that is an important thing to consider.
bluesnowmonkey
Because it pays for itself on the first day by saving you 2 to 4 hours? And there's a good chance your company pays for it anyway?

Iran really didn't do anything to us (the USA). I get that they wanted nukes. But like... everyone wants nukes. We even *have* nukes. We're bombing them for daring to try to build what we built thousands of. In what world does that not make us the bad guys on this?
And now we're talking about sanctions against Iran as if they've done something to deserve it, as if we have any kind of moral high ground. It's such shameful behavior.
Americans as a people just don't hate Iranians. They probably hate us, completely understandably, given what we're doing to them. We have a real bag of dicks running this country.
I'd watch a Warhammer/Terminator crossover.
