This may be true outside the USA (I cannot say) but it is less true here, because of shortage of diagnosing physicians who take health insurance. In my metro area over fifty per cent do not. The waiting list for screenings can be years and the cost averages thousands.

Granted, in recent years both boys and girls with ADHD are likely to be identified when they are still at school and eligible for more resources,but as we all know now, ADHD manifests quite differently in girls than it does in boys.

Women elders today would be rare indeed if their disorder was spotted during their own youth, when it was believed ADHD only effected boys.

Also, with lower income women who become mothers and have to work, then also be caretakers to not only their parents but those of their mate (if they have one), their own health needs are generally ignored short of an imminent life threatening crisis for decades.

In no way am I saying this cohort represents a large proportion of the elders who self-diagnose ADHD OP is posting about.

I am merely pointing out that it is commonplace for lower class women to put off medical needs until after all the kids are raised and gone and they are semi-retired from low wage work and gig employment.

Not just ADHD diagnoses, but more obvious needs such as medically necessary hysterectomies, hernia repairs or whatever get put off till they are in their sixties. As for mental health care -- even more back burner.

(Note: also bear in mind that operating in crisis/hyperfocus mode all the time due to poverty, too many kids, too many sick in-laws etc. serves to camouflage their profound lack of executive function until these storms have passed).

There is nearly zero regulatory oversight on U.S. cosmetics (actually zero if you buy off Temu, Amazon, TikTok shops etc).

Cosmetics sold in Europe are subject to REACH regulations. Cosmetics sold in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Canada also have to abide by very strict ingredient, storage, packaging and production rules.

USA goods are not safe at all, sadly, including the small batch crafts vendors based in the USA (especially them, in some cases, because they don't earn enough to fear litigation).

Amazon is selling literal poison sometimes. I wanted to buy Urea for cosmetics use (Lotion Crafters was sold out) and the listing and reviews stated it was safe for cosmetics..I tracked the actual product down from a bar code I made out in a reviewer photo and it was fertilizer grade (30% contamination permitted and the contamination is often heavy metals).

Of course, in Europe, Japan, Canada New Zealand and Australia that urea wouldn't even be legal to sell as fertilizer.

NOTE: The urea seller was Alfa Chemical, a USA based company.
