there are several wars going on, infrastructure for energy and transportation has not been properly maintained in a lot of places, "smart" devices have been hacked affecting food, climate change is causing natural disasters all over. so a lot of places are trying to make sure the people living there are prepared. the more people are personally ready to get through a problem, the easier it is to give emergency help to those who are in dire need.

i saw a guy out swimming at the river the day after i worked on him and you bet i hollered at him. yelled at him like an angry grandma.

i even threw my shoe at him.

i have worked on him for decades now. if he has done that again he has made sure i don't know about it lol.

but he's a decent dude

you gotta learn to be ok with saying no and meaning it

like even if he's a wonderful client, he doesn't need to be your client, you don't even need a reason for that. there's plenty of tattoo artists, let someone else have it. even if it's just that you got a weird feeling. you can always say no to anyone it's a personal service occupation.

I'm a gnome and will ask the nice barbarian to move the stones again. politely

bristlybits

i could not do a thing like this. but I'm not mad at him. some things, some times, you just can't get beyond them.

bristlybits

can we compare the way we compare with leaded gas exposure maybe? population-wide.

bristlybits

fully agreed. people are using it to fill in deficits they didn't have previously

bristlybits

we did trenches

curved holes kinda. a trench for each color and mixed the different kinds in.

bristlybits

go early. breathe in, remove mask for photos, breathe out strongly to clear the mask as you put it back on. it's how i did.

bristlybits

for art, because i apply for grants and shows. it does list my tattoo work stuff but that's it. it's just a link to add to their forms for juried shows for painting etc

bristlybits

I'll take it, just because it means withers thinks I'm hot

bristlybits

I'm an artist and used to do a lot of conventions, art fair, and such.

i dropped most of the markets after MLMs became welcomed, I'm not going try to sell art and handcrafts next to someone peddling snake oil and polyester leggings.

you need a different mentor and a full new apprenticeship.

bristlybits

the issue is you are asking strangers in a public forum where non professionals can benefit from any answers we give you.

you aren't going to get anything worthwhile that way. you gotta network so you have people to ask that know you.

bristlybits

dude i did a long ass for real old time apprenticeship and had no concept of business stuff at all for like ten years almost. i learned the hard way. i went back to school for business at one point to figure it out.

the "business side" beyond figuring out your own taxes, finances and labor law- like your personal rights and responsibilities as a worker- everything beyond that is a whole OTHER field of work. it's crazy. i couldn't own a shop AND tattoo well. just can't wear that many hats! learned the hard way.

i can tell you with guest spots, go visit people who you like and who are kind and encouraging at first. ask them what you need to come work. every place is different, you'll learn so so much doing those. like doing enough guest spots is basically a second apprenticeship if you are curious, helpful and willing to ask all the questions.

bristlybits

yes, trade unions. look at how electricians, plumbers, painters do it. there's a set number of apprenticeships a year, set pay for that, etc

I've been in the IWW for years because other tattoo artists just don't want to join up yet. "Craftsman" is the correct job category there.

bristlybits

call whatever local ecological group regulates noxious weeds. they may make your neighbor do it and pay to have it done professionally.

bristlybits

get tattooed by people you don't work with/for. go to other shops' events and art shows. stay in touch with everyone you work with over the years. talk to everyone you think seems interesting at conventions. and so on

then when you're looking for something you got a network to reach out to

bristlybits

berries, greens, and herbs. all should be pretty low maintenance and they cost more at the store.

bristlybits

more people are buying the gamble product, therefore it's a good product

bristlybits

yes  they look fine.

the grafts will give you the same apples. the seeds will at least give you good root stock to graft more on to, later
