I recently replaced the S1 with the BodyFit because the Garmin rusted out after a few years in the bathroom.

brontide

Ubuntu patches are out*. Likely because they don't have to backport because 24.04 is on php 8.3 vs php 8.0 for RHEL9.

https://ubuntu.com/security/notices/USN-8948-1

\* they list packages in their advisory but I'm not seeing them in the mirrors yet

brontide

You could get them on the phone?

brontide

Don't expect it (The T90) to pick up dried stains, at least not consistently. Mapping is decent but you must use "auto" and let it clean the entire floorplan to update the map. Only gotten stuck a few times in a month. Once was catching a floor mat and dragging it over a small ledge getting stuck, once was eating a cat fishing device, knocked over a folding chair. Have to empty/fill it quite often but we have a lot of space that it's cleaning.

I just did a deep dive on the app and there is a flag to turn off promotional and "ambiance", I will give it a try and turn notifications back on.

brontide

Ecovacs are a good value but the app is trash and will spam you with ads. My iRobot I had before this needed to be cleaned constantly but the app wasn't half bad.

brontide

I really wish they would fix this bug. I've reported this for years. Devices with very low traffic often report with terabytes of traffic. On a 10mbps device I was seeing 10 terabytes/day because the statistics are just wrong.

I have the T90 Pro Omni. The app is the problem. Push ads popping up on my phone and watch are a hassle. I've had to turn off notifications so I don't get notified when it runs into trouble either. It's a great value but keep in mind the app and push ads are obnoxious.

Turn the watch to the inside of the wrist?

brontide

I know this is the Garmin sub but don't forget that that the Apple Watch and Withing watches are both very good options for general health metrics including the ones you are looking to track. Sleep and SpO2 aren't exactly great on the Garmin and SpO2 specifically will cut battery life something fierce.

brontide

The thing that pushed me towards the 9. Double the ram and storage on the device as well as higher quality buttons.

brontide

It's always fascinated me that people accept daily charging as a thing. Now, I will say I would like to see things like passive afib but not willing to give up basic features like going more than a week between charges. The AMOLED is particularly confusing since it's off most of the time.

brontide

My FR245 ended up being a hand-me-down to my son. He eventually killed it in a scooter accident ( road rash ) and the watch sent it's distress call as intended. RIP, it was a solid unit.

brontide

I've had Garmins back to the vivoactive 3 and I'm not sure why MIP is not more popular. My last watch had the AMOLED screen. The AMOLED screen may be beautiful while it's on but it can't be on all the time without draining the battery something fierce. My new fenix 9 pro solar arrives today.

brontide

That's Tesla's recommendations but, apparently, some jurisdictions require more.

Beware the Florida native cougar

brontide

Bingo, it's stuck and trying to find an exit. It's the perfect storm, high enough that it's not seen as an obstacle by the sensors but likely tripping the press sensor.

I printed 1cm washers for my couch feet so that my robot can stop getting stuck.

I call those ~2006+ "the touch generation" as they have not known a world where tech was overwhelmingly capacitive touch enabled. Yes, it got worse by 2015 where many were raised by iPads which is a whole new level of problems.

brontide

Funny enough if you have access to the DHCP the units use their serial number embedded in the hostname.

model number -- serial number

1707000-11-L--TG1250XXXXXXXX

brontide

Tell that to the car rental places that don't understand that you don't need a passport to visit from Puerto Rico.

brontide

I would also point out that domestically US Mobile has been great but I have had nothing but trouble with the international roaming and I've seen others complaining about various aspects such as not being able to reach all international numbers, I guess there is a whitelist of numbers but they don't publish it so you won't know until you try.

Basically, if you require international calling or roaming you should confirm what you are getting and your specific calling needs.

brontide

Think of it this way; all products have faults and all software has bugs.

The real test of a company is when they are faced with a fault or bug. Bad companies shoot the messenger, good companies resolve the issue either by proof or a fix.

brontide

Rest and vest.

This one is a little more limited in scope, thankfully. You need a vulnerable kernel, vulnerable suid apps on the device, and good timing. The software must take actions in a specific order to leave the file descriptor vulnerable. Basically it has to open the file and drop privileges before closing the file. The calling process can then kill the process ( with the user privs ) and read the file descriptor if the timing was right. You can't read arbitrary root owned files, but the files that these vulnerable processes had open after they drop privs.

They generally aren't looking out for your best interest, they don't want people to all be taking time in December and they don't want to be liable for taking away time at the end of the year.
